I recently quit a co (this mon). I had been in contact with my fm over a period of a few days concerning some family issues at home, and told him "off the record, I may be turning in my truck". I had said that because i wasn't sure if i could get everything taken care of or not (as the truck cant just keep sitting). Well, i called on sun night, talked to night dispatch and told them I was bringing the truck to the terminal to turn it in. They asked why, loaded or not, and said ok, we hope all goes well and that you can return soon. I was not loaded, and bounced to terminal. I then left out very early mon morning to bring the truck back. I arrived, cleaned out the truck, checked in all the gear, had it inspected, and got my papers saying it was returned in good shape. I had while i was there, talked to my FM on the phone-again about my personal issues, and confirming the truck was returned.
Now my issue. I just looked at my last check. They deducted money saying it was "unauthorized use" to the tune of 200.00. i called tonight, and was told I should have had a load, or gave 2 weeks notice so i could (supposedly) be routed in. I did not want a load on the truck so they wouldn't ding my DAC for a load undelivered. They also are charging me based on my home address, and not where i ALWWAYS park the truck (and can be confirmed by qualcom gps). All i can do now is wait till mon to call my normal FM to try to get reimbursed. However, i don't think ill get far with that. Is there anything I can do, or someone to call about this? I think its crap, I was a good driver, did my job, clean record with co, and was NOT told not to bring the truck back empty. I feel this is just their way of trying to get even because i quit

Whoa $200! You say you didn't want them to ding your dac for not delivering a load so did you tell them you didn't want a load? If so that's probably why they charged you. I quit a company and gave them 2 days notice but I made sure I was first under a load that delivered in the same city as our terminal and turned in my truck and wasn't charged anything. I'm guessing that if you refused a load to get you to the terminal and drove empty that maybe why. I don't know why they charged you for the distance to your home and not the terminal.

Let it go. Just my advice, based on a similar experience about a decade ago. The peace-of-mind you'll have is worth the small amount of money you lost.
Not saying don't at least ask your FM for help. But if that dead-ends, drop it. -
I didnt refuse a load. I went home empty-My FM and I had talked and we both agreed that because I wasnt sure how long id be parked keeping a load on the truck wouldnt be wise as i wouldnt/didnt know when or if id be able to deliver one (had i been dispatched on one).
@ 48packard. To some degree, I can see your point. Im gone, i did the best I could for them, and this is how they treat a loyal driver. That said, I have a real hard time just letting them keep $ for nothing. For now your right, i will chat with my FM and possibly all will go ok. But if it goes sour, I will (at the very least) post on here about them, what they did, and why I wouldnt recomend them. -
Let me 'splain a couple things to ya'.......trucking companies have a hard time trying to run a business when their drivers keep throwing monkey wrenches into their operations. Case in point, YOU, telling them you have "family issues" and aren't sure if you can deliver a load if you're dispatched and would rather drop the truck off and head home. So now, IF they had a load planned for you, guess what, they have to scramble to cover it another way. And then maybe move the truck to another area of the Country to utilize it. And hire a driver to driver it. There's a never ending barrage of complaints from drivers about how bad a certain truck company is, but how about from the truck companies complaining about how their drivers mess up constantly with damaging their equipment or trashing their equipment or losing an account because they can't seem to arrive on time, or get their paperwork in on time, or maybe can't even make a right turn without running over a fire hydrant.
G/MAN Thanks this.
