Fuel Additive for winter

Kerosene doesn't have any lubricates for the fuel pump and there isn't any road built in. It can also be difficult to find on the road, but gasoline is readily available

 

I did 13.5 years in Edmonton and it got cold there, and the fuel at the time was not as good as it is now many drivers use to put fuel tank end covers on the fuel tanks. The old B model cats had a return fuel rate of maybe a couple of ounces a minute of cool fuel.

 

Kerosene has sulfur in it and will destroy the newer high preasure injectors. Also the emissions devices and it is easily visible so all warrenty will be denied.

 

Down here in the states K1 is clear and has to have low sulfur content for home use, no die either.

 

Perhaps so with lower lubricants, but will not eat any seals like gasoline does. True finding it on the road may be difficult but some do not drive further than local, long distance you would have to find places that carry it. Not hard if you have the desire to locate places that carry it. Just have to have a fuel can since it is against the law to pump it into your tanks directly as K1 clear.

 

I used Kleen Flo, split the can between the 2 tanks, good to 40-60 below.

 

I use methanol/methyl alcohol for many years, it's cheap here in Canada 3-5$/litre depends where you buy it and what quantity; half a litre in each 150 gal tank/ 1 L per fuel up.Many truckers here are using it, will tell you "removes water from diesel", Methanol actualy lower the water freezing point, (contained in diesel or acumulated in the bottom of the fuel tank) . Most of the expenssive additives and winterized fuels contains methanol as antigeling ingredient;
Yes, i read all kind of stories, disolves ruber seals, mess up emission, but is BS; Works for me, I reached 1 milion miles last month on my original motor Volvo D13 with DPF/EGR. I know in USA is ilegal and hard to find , can be dangerous poisson and some punks are using it to make meths drugs.

 

I ran Amsoil in my last 379 I can't get into all the technical aspects 'cause I'm not that smart, but what I can tell you is I was leased to a company in Minnesota and live in upstate NY I never froze up with Amsoil additive in the tanks..

FWIW, I ran Amsoil full synthetic oil in the motor also with bypass filters....

 

I pour whatever cheap oil is around into my truck, chug tequila and pee in my tanks!

 

Not all kerosene is considered K1.

K1 is the low sulfur version and is the recommended fuel for home use.
