Time to vent. Showed up at a appt this morning and was at first told that my appt was 1300 while my assignment said 0800. They put me in a dock and started to load me. Next thing that I know, the removed what they put on and told me that their office upstairs said that they where not going to load a Swift truck with this load. Not sure why. The foreman did not even know. Tell DM and he contacts CSR. Now almost 3 hours later, still do not have a clue as to what is going on. Next to me is another Swift, showed up for his load, told him that also early, but come back at appt time and they will load him. I am thinking that the receiver does not want their product on a Swift trailer. Now in the meantime, my 14 has started, doubt that I will see detention, and dead headed 200 miles to get here.

This is another example of CSR think that we are dumb and do not know what is going on out here. the last time was a delivery in Denver. the customer hands me back paperwork, says, see you on Monday and not any sooner. CSR had me sit there 6 hours before they finally accepted the fact, the receiver was not going to take the load early. Enough is Enough. This was my load home.

I can't verify how Swift works, but I'm sure it's like the company I work for. After driving for 40 years, I've moved into the inside and have seen some real eye openers.
Here is how it works. The buyer (let's call it Associated) orders from a supplier (we'll call Acme). Acme will choose the carrier, in this case, Swift.
The order is generally done across the internet and tendered subsequently to the carrier the same way. Dates, times, weights, etc are suppose to be supplied, but often some details (such as pu#'s or delivery numbers) are missing.
They dispatch you to the load, but in the meantime, the order confirmation from Acme has been sent to Associated including the carrier.
Someone at Associated has their panties in a bunch over Swift and sends back an order that Swift cannot be the carrier.
In the meantime, you're traveling to the shipper, fat, dumb and happy, only to have your experience.
The lag time between orders, dispatch, confirmation and changes made by shippers all cross each other.
So it may not be the CSR at all, but a combination of things that lead to this. Unfortunately, you the driver are at the end of the food chain and often take it in the end.

Thanks. that part I can understand. But when booking the load, this is something that should have already been addressed. Associated should have already told Acme, do not load on Swift, so then Acme would have not booked the load. Still in the meantime, as a O/O, I am the one that takes it in the shorts. And I can bet, I will not see detention. But there is still the other part, who books the appointment, like in my other instance. Blame that on miscommunication, or that CSR was trying and hoping that the receiver would take it early. Yes, we as the driver, take it in the end.

Now in the meantime, due to the time of the day, most of the fr8 in my area is gone. Send me a load, pu in the morning, 50 miles away, and del 640 miles on Thursday. About 400 miles NW of my home. Could have t-called in KC, but for now, ohhhh no.

If I were you, I'd leave swift and get my own authority to book my own loads. Especially when your livelihood is dependent upon that truck payment.

Even if things ran smoothly, how on earth can you make a living on what Swift pays? And then you are finally learning that companies with poor CSA scores are getting black balled by shippers and receivers. It is not going to get better.

I have been in this lease truck for 19 months. This is really the first time in all of this time that I have been seeing problems. My miles are still where I want them to be, and after the truck payment and all of the expenses, still making more that a company driver.

I don't know what Swifts score is but it is high enough that I get a green light 19 times outta 20.

After my 8-hour fiasco at the paper mill in Alabama I've adopted a new attitude concerning problem shippers/botched appointments.........I DO NOT STICK AROUND!

I call my DM and tell him what's going on with instructions to TAKE ME OFF THE LOAD so that I can move on and find something else. To date I've done it at least 3 times and it works for me.

that is going to be my new policy. I was lucky this morning. Arrived at my pu and was told that he is behind on some loads. Luckily mine was not one of them. Another Swift pulled in next to me, and she was not lucky. Was told at least another 4 hours past her supposed appt time. Another thing that is really starting to both me, when see FCFS in the assign, and they have a appt, and then actually say, yes, it is an appt. The other day had one of those, showed up, and in front of me, a Swift, and pulling in behind me, another Swift. We were all told, yes, an appt for 0800. this place had 1 dock. I really doubt that they would schedule 3 trucks in at the same time. So two of us were double parked on a 2 lane road, in CA.
