Yea kinda sounds like they get your last check. I wouldn't pay them anything out of pocket but let them have the last check if it isn't more than the $4?? they say you owe. Move on to a different company and start anew. Good luck from here on out.
Can a company deduct fuel from pay to return truck to yard?

Thanks for the repsonses guys.
Perhaps getting out from running like a dog, as soon as possible, was worth the cost of the fuel in the long run..lol -
Did they actually tell you that you were terminated and to return the truck?
If so, then they would be responsible for the fuel.
If not, it sounds like a voluntary quit, and then you are probably responsible for the fuel. -
No, actually they were eerily quite about it, I had to call safety and send them a copy, they said they'd call me back in a few minutes and never did. While waiting, is when I found it in the manual.
I got the impression pretty quick that they are professionals at CYA. They would send my dispatch via email (smart-phone) then call with "special" instructions about how to get around the customers policies.
Of course, after the fact, they said the manual wasn't set in stone and I wouldn't have been fired...who knows really -
You're not fired unless they tell you you're fired, so legally you quit voluntarily.
You can't fire yourself because you feel you violated company policy.
It's not like that. -
Not that it helps with your original question but if you ever run into a company that does that again, archive any emails or texts, they can be printed out later if need be. Their is an app that alows you to record any phone calls from specific numbers OR you should be able to use the record function on your smart phone. I had a girl frind put a stalker in jail with the recording app, his emails were ummm subjective, you could take them alot of different ways. His phone calls on the other hand were short, less than 30 seconds and menacing. With out that app she would not have gotten the recordings. I dont remember the name but a google search would probably find it..

yeah...i printed all emails and made copies of everything I sent through the Transflo app...I just couldn't figure out how to record calls on my phone soon enough
-
Sounds to me like you were looking for a reason to quit anyway. I can't see why anybody would just "assume" they were going to get fired. If you wanted that job, I think you would have fought for it. It really sounds to me like you and the company are both better off with you parting company.
Chalk it up to experience, learn something from it, and get on with your life. -
I didn't consider it "assuming" since it's clearly stated in their employee handbook but, then again, I've never been fired from a job.
You're right though, I would have quit there sooner than later but, in the least painful way for both of us. To be honest, I was a little shocked to find out that they're places still around that expect you to do the things they do -
May want to check laws about recording phone calls before you do it..
