"Business" implies commercial use, whether it is your business or not. Commercial means the feds can regulate it if you cross state lines, and T/T's are heavy enough that you'll fall under the HOS rules and regulations. You will have to maintain some form of record of hours worked in compliance with the regulations.

I've never heard of a 120 air mile radius rule. The "local" exemption for log books is a 100 air mile radius. An air mile is the same as a nautical mile, NOT the same as a land mile. 100 air miles is the equivalent of 115 land miles.

Then yes, you will be required to have a CDL, log book, stop at all of the scales, etc...basically abide by all of the regulations that every other semi truck on the road has to follow.

 

Sounds like it would be less expensive to hire this out...either a power only job if it is your trailer or t/t if you didnt have a trailer....between renting a truck from Ryder and the fuel....and you are spending a day + to do this why not sub contract it out. Not telling you how to run your business however from a cost standpoint you are really cutting it close as to if any savings exist.

Again - I do not know the exact situation so maybe you could elaborate a lil' more?

On your trip you can drive 11 hours in a 14 hour period than you must take a 10 hour break. In the first 8 hours of driving you must show a 30 minute break.
