Hey all
Anyone have any experience training at the Sumner, WA facility? What's it like? Any good advice you could give a potential student?
I'm going to talk to a Swift recruiter tomorrow but I don't know how much 'personal' info they can give me on this facility. I'm not sure if it is just a terminal or if it is actually for training. I'm guessing if it is a terminal I will be training in Idaho instead.
Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

As far as I know the Sumner location is just a terminal. The Swift school is located in Lewiston,ID. I went through the school about 6 months ago and it was a great experience.
DocWatson Thanks this. -
Sumner is just a terminal. They do orientation for new hires and assignment for mentors. Lewiston ID has a driving school with a small range and a big port / industrial area there. I think it is a great setup for a driving school. Most of the work out of Sumner is in dedicated fleets, Parking for a POV is tight, as is parking for everything else. Hope this helps.

I didn't go through their school but the one in lewiston looks nice across the street from the terminal and down in the port which will be nice to learn how to drive on streets with out much traffic. I am not sure if they let you run lewiston grade but I don't see why they wouldn't either. If so watch out that mountain has wreaked a number of flat-landers careers.

Ohhh come on. that grade is fun, and what better experience. I remember a Swifty speeding down that grade, and was seen at the bottom, and cleaned out his truck that same day after a little chat with safety

I went through the lewsiton school, it was a good school if you ask me. Although a few things could have changed, it's only been 12 years since I went through there. We didn't ever drive the hill back then. Once we made it out of the school's course we stuck mainly around the port area, around town a little bit, and some local highway driving.
My 1st week in class it stunk so bad of hot brakes. A driver dozed off at the top of the grade, and somehow managed to keep it on the road, went through the frontage roads and across the highway (incuding several jersey barriers) at the bottom of the hill. His truck came to rest inside the then new Idaho state police building, his truck was actually holding up what was left of the building. Amazingly enough, no one was seriously hurt or killed.DocWatson Thanks this. -
the lewiston terminal is awesome and doesn't have a check out gate... the school and range are across the street from the terminal...
if you meet Dewayne in safety he is a cool guy Shawn is a prick... as for sumner they only plan heavy haul out of their, the rest of the planners for seattle area are in Troutdale which is even smaller than sumner -
