I have a 1992 Peterbilt 379. The seat sits to far forward and I cant scoot it back any due to it hitting the wall of the sleeper. Is there anyway I can make the opening larger between my cab and sleeper so I can move the seat further back?

well as far as i know u have 2 options either cut the hole bigger reseal it and poof u can put the seat back or option 2 buy a newer pete i got an 01 and i could fall back in the bunk both are rather expensive options though

Seriously though, is this a truck you just bought? Why did you not know this before buying it? FWIW, being a pretty good size fella myself, I can appreciate your problem. And it is a major one. Your best bet is to probably learn to live with it, until you can trade that truck for another one. -
Bought the truck for our company. Driver that is driving it is the one with the knee room problem. Just trying to make it more comfortable for him. Just wondering if there was any kind of kit out there for this problem.

you can get the frame work and seal boot from a pete unibilt cab/ sleeper and put them into the frame mount sleeper. it will be a fair bit of work though, another option might be to move the throttle pedal forward so he can stretch out a bit more.

i was thinking they make seats with different dimensions check around. a seat with a skinnier back might give him just enough room where it wont bug his bad knee cheaper alternative and more comfortable for him and hey commend u on actually caring about ur driver u dont see that to often

I don't know if all Pete body shops can/will do it, but Doonan Peterbilt in Wichita, KS will convert the sleeper passage to Unibilt size. I *think* they get around $3500 for it, but I'm not positive on that.

If the seat is a high back seat,switch to a low back seat. It's not the total answer but will help quite a bit.

Just find you a Unibilt sleeper of a wrecked truck and convert your cab opening to the larger size and install the new/used sleeper,Probably the quickest/cheapest way to enlarge the opening and have more leg room. Or do what I have been thinking about and seen done a few times on different trucks,Extend the cab of the truck 12" to 18",It requires taking the back of the cab apart and doing some fabrication,But I have checked and all the parts are available thru Peterbilt. You would have to lengthen the wheelbase of the truck and move the sleeper back however much you added to the cab. But in my opinion it would be worth it. I am going to do this to a 379 along with installing a 359 Dash of Class in it,twin sticks,The whole works. I am 6'6" tall and I love mt Peterbilts,but they are a little short in leg room,But this option will take care of that and give me a truck that not everyone has. According to my research you can use metal panel from Peterbilt to do this,A sleeper panel will go around the door and give you the extension room and wrap around the back of the cab. Do a little research,If this is an option for you and you will figure it out. Hope this helps!!!

I know this post is old but I have replaced the non unibilt opening with one from a unibilt. I just bought a wrecked cab and sleeper. (It was laid on its side) took the plasma torch to the back of the cab and front sleeper wall, took out the interior of my truck and sleeper and then marked where the cab supports go and made a new hole and installed the unibilt opening. The huck rivets were he hardest part. Got the seat about 8" further back by cutting down the closets on a 48" sleeper. Low bases will give a sense of more leg room by sitting more like a car or mid bases for the seat will be like a pickup. Just depends on what your preference is. Mine seats can sit on the floor.
