does your truck have to be so new before you can leese on with them or does age of truck matter? I am trying to decide if I want to take my truck to schneider or come to LS. I have a 2000 fld.

No age limit, but has to pass a thorough inspection at a LS authorized shop, plus inspections every 120 days.

Just giving an update. So I hadnt heard anything in 2 Weeks from landstar so I decided to call them. I asked what was the status of my application & the guy told me that I had passed everything & someone should have called me a week ago. so all I have to do now is get a truck.

I have a friend who just was approved and went out and bought a used 1994 International Cabover truck from a family friend. It passed their inspection with flying colors but Landstar would not let him lease it on because it would not be compatible with their electronic logs. So there might be an age limit now on tractors.

It will have to have an electronic engine, as all new leases must run an EOBR and they will not hook up to a mechanical engine. Other than that, no age limit. If your friend replaced the mechanical engine, with an electronic, it would pass muster.

The majority of independent contractors are just as expensive as BCO's on long hauls. The only place I "MIGHT," and I do stress MIGHT make more money is on short hauls where I can make may $50 more, but LS takes nearly 50% of that. On Long Hauls, I'd just assume use a BCO as I would a brokered truck because I make about the same amount of money either way and have far less of a headache 98% of the time by putting it on a BCO vs. a brokered truck. BCO's generally are mature, well mannered, speak clear english, and are safe.

A lot depends on you and your former employers. LS, in general, doesn't green light you for orientation until they've verified all your former employers and done the background checks. If you've had 10 jobs in 10 years, it's going to take a while. If you've only worked for a big company for the last 4 years, it should be pretty quick
