Triple M, I just replaced a slack adjuster on my truck. It was doing the same thing when it would rain. That wheel would just lock up even after I had replaced the drums and shoes. It fixed it for me
Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
If its the bushing just check the slack its probably fine. Most adjustment issues aren't the slack but rather bushings and hardware.
The problem is if its the s cam bushing everything has to come apart including a New wheel seal.Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
I have wondered about this but when I check the clearance of the shoes to the drum with the brakes released it is correct so it had me thinking of other possible contributors to the problem. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt going to needlessly spend money on something and not fix the issue. I am thinking I will have to replace both the adjuster and bushing and then maybe the valve too. There goes my beer money!SHC Thanks this.

And it really sucks seeing it is only a 2010 model and your having these problems !!!
Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
With proper diagnosing you will only have to replace one part. That's the thing I hate about shops.is thwy tend to be parts replacers and not diagnosers.

This year I've done all 10 brakes. Premium shoes, centrifuse drums, full hardware kits, s cam bushing kits, all s cams, haldex lifeseal brake chambers (7 year warranty I've never had one fail) yet I only replaced two slacks because they were mis matched. All I did was verify that they worked properly, then cleaned em, changed the clevis pin bushing and greased them. The truck and trailer brake like a dream, good actuation and perfectly.balanced.
Slacks simply get blamed for too much.SHC Thanks this. -
My plan in the next month is to rebuild the entire brake system on my truck as well. It's got 823k miles on the original parts (minus shoes) so I think it's about time lol

Your new brake is going to grab more until the shoes seat themselves in.
I replaced all my shoes and drums this past summer, used premium shoes... Aaaw man what a mistake. I couldn't touch my brakes when I was empty without leaving rubber on the ground. Flat spotted all 8 and had to get them all shaved when several cars passed me and then came to a stop in front of me in Kansas City. 6 months later I can stop on a dime now without locking them up in a normal stop.
All I can suggest is get your self a heavy load on and ride your trailer bakes to help seat them to your drum, be sure not to get them too hot, -
I have had 2 heavy loads on it and this is the only one that is giving me a problem whether empty or loaded.
