Hi EtaN,
Your post to me was great info back when you wrote it. Very helpful. My situation is complicated because I have a DUI from 4.5 years ago. I want to get into trucking, but I'm also unemployed and it sucks to be broke. My first choice is central reefer, but I would have to wait until July of 2013 because they go by conviction date instead of the actual occurrence. Crst said they go by arrest date. For me that is a 3 month difference. I'm so desperate to get out on the road. In your opinion, is crst so bad that I'm better off waiting the 3 months to get on with central? I'm just anxious to get going and being broke sucks. Crst is only 8 month commitment. What do you think ? -
After you get thur crst driving school you will be lucky if you have 2hrs worth of seat time.
Then you go out with a trainer for 28 days he/she may not even have much to teach you as they allow drivers with as litte as 8 months exp. train(nothing to teach you) Then you have to find yourself a team partner. crst will sometimes give you a list of drivers that are also looking for a partner usually your on your own to find some one it could takes you weeks to find one.
Ok so now you found yourself a partner and guess what he just finished his 28days too or he's only got a coulple of months exp. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO PUT YOUR LIFE IN SOME STRANGERS HANDS THATS DOES'NT HAVE ANYMORE EXP THAN YOU DO. REMEMBER YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO TRY AND SLEEP WHILE THIS PERSON IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. YOUR LITERLLY GOING TO BE TRUSTING A COMPLETE STRANGER WITH YOUR LIFE. Wait and go with central you'll still have to go with a trainer for a while but after that you wont have to keep trusting a stranger with your life or you could look in to Wakins Shepherd no trainers from what i understand just a long intense orentation 10/15 days then your out on your own.Punky74 Thanks this. -
I don't much about Central other then its reefer. You'll be dealing with that loud thing and groc whouses and lumpers.
Punky74 Thanks this. -
Did my 8 months and got out! Never once got home on time ask for. Weekend and evening dispatch suck! Bust our tails hauling from N.C. to Portland just to layup @ the TA all weekend. No detention pay, 3 times had to give up or get chains from other divers. Just not worth being away from home for little money and no respect.

Im planning to start of with CRST and go to one of there schools. After I would recieve me CDL I would leave before signing the contract in orientation and go with another training company, what could happen if I try this?
-
They will bill you $3 grand. Then you would not receive your trucking school certificate. Unless you finish the 8 months. Another training company would want to see proof of how you obtained the CDL, and you would have none.

Alright what if I do go to their orientation and complete training thru them and leave before going on with a co driver? I know I will still owe them though
-
That would even be worse. They would ding your DAC for whatever reason they want too. Then, you still would not have any ground to stand on without that certificate from the school.
Edit: If you're going to go to CRST finish the 8 months at least. Doors will open trust me.James77 Thanks this. -
You will not start the CDL class untill you sign the contract.James77 Thanks this.
