The $1000 a week thing does NOT exist anymore & when it did it was a bad thing , because they ran you until you earned every penny of it ! When I was there , the 30/40 cpm was the best deal because they try to keep your empty miles as low as possible ! But Sharkey has NO paid vacation or Holidays , like the other 2 divisions get ( Core & Sisbro) Biggest problem with them is - they book 3 -4 loads stacked on the QualComm , they did this to me & then asked for my ETA to the last load reciever ! I had a few more problems while I was there , mostly trivial things ! If you go there be careful !

I didn't have any problems when I left, In fact I was shocked by them, I received my final pay then a couple weeks after that I received my safety bonus.
-
i didnt recieve mine they said i would but then said no like then changed policy in midstrem to benifit them
-
So what you are Saying is they stacked you
4 loads ahead? And they ran you enough miles to make 1000 every week? -
Remember they turned me down years ago when I applied for a job, might have had something to do with ripping the roof off a trailer before getting fired from my last job.... but they suck!! Ha

I ran for Sisbro from 07/2013 to 10/2014. Outdated equipment but they did a decent job of up keep. I was home almost every night which was great but only averaged around 550 a week bring home working 65+ hours.. I would drop and hook up to 6 times a day at times. a lot of waiting and not enough miles. I discussed with them that I couldn't be paid as a road driver only averaging 1800 miles per week but they didn't agree I guess because I no longer work there.
From what I heard, talking to the OTR drivers, they were doing better than that. -
I worked for "Sharkey" up until recently as of this past month and sorry to report was one of the worst companies yet. (for me anyways) Pro's about them...They do have some good lanes. Some newer equipment. (they are getting better) Mostly tractors. Laid back atmosphere. Some dedicated lanes. Oh and did I mention "Free Healthcare?" (Take it at face value, I did) Cons: Slow trucks, (62 mph) Electronic logs. (slow truck + electronic logs = little pay) Trucks are equipped with what they call Wingman detection. Which means it shuts your cruse off every time you come close to or get cut off by another car like with in 50 ft or more! (I found this real annoying!!) Too many Brokered loads. (being payed % means going to the poor house.) Not to mention, they pull an extra 15% for fuel expenses before you get your cut! Example: 30% broker fees, then 15% for fuel leaves me only 55% left. My cut is 28% of that 55%!! (any questions?) Deplorable trailers. Some if not most of the ones I pulled shouldn't even be on the road. They have been welded and repaired on so much that even the welds on them will no longer hold. Mileage pay: It too is split. Meaning, loaded you get anywhere from .45 to .55 loaded and .30 emty! I did a lot of D/H. And if you do hire on with them, You have to stick it out for a minimum of I think 6mo. If you quit before that, they will deduct all of the orientation expenses, hotel, meals, and the $300 they give you after orientation! This also includes your DOT card. And if you choose to run Flatbed as I did, they will deduct all the equipment that goes with running Flat. $450. They say you get it back when you quit, I'm still waiting for my return?! Now that's the bulk of it, there is more but I think you get the point. Now this may be a company for some but it was NOT for me. So Hire on at your own risk. Hopefully you have better luck than me. I've been driving for over 21 years and never have I experienced a company such as this! Good luck to ya.
icsheeple Thanks this. -
The equipment was my biggest gripe. Most trailers were just awful and the 2006 international 9400i was so wore out. Whole thing rattled something fierce. Seems like I'd find a dash screw every time I swept out.
The gravel lot at the KC terminal was horrible. I could never keep the truck clean, and the gravel dust would follow you home.
My advice for anyone looking at the three Sharkey companies is there's better options out there.
