Hi , Kevin here from Chapel hill TN. Well i was born an raised in WV. Me and my family ( wife and kids ) moved to TN in 2010. The factory i worked for after almost 13 yr sold out. And i got a factory job in nashville TN. Which the pay is good and has benefits. But Ive got diesel fuel in my blood. My Dad has been driving since around 1980. He has been a company, team and O/O. Which he is now a local company driver again. I have always wanted to be a trucker ever since i was old enough to talk. I was going to start driving back in 98 but a cute girl caught my eye LOL. I would take a vacation an go out with dad for a week man that was fun. when he would let me drive on the backroads back home i was in heaven. I really shocked myself the first time i drove with my shifting he said i didnt even grind'em the second time i drove he show me how to float'em. he said i was born to drive that was in 2007. Man i miss it LOL. Sorry about the rambling anyway my kids will be out of school in a few years and my wife and i want to go OTR. She wants to see the country and i do to. I ran across this site looking a trucking jobs an info. Now I no the first couple of years my pay will suck and hometime will to. But making 55,000 and working 8 to 5 is not all that great either. I really hate working in factories but i do love my kids. they r the only reason im not driving now. So when they get out of school in a total of 4 yr im hittin the road. I would like to drive otr for a while then find something where i can be home aleast three nights a week. If i could find a local company that would give me a chance i would do it now. well thats a little about me.

Here's some good companies around Nashville with some good hometime:
Associated Grocers transportation dept(reefers) - Goodlettsville - Transportation dept. outsoursed to trucking company. can deliver to stores or haul freight outbound to different states & reload back to Goodlettsville.
Tankstar(Schwerman tanker-Teamsters) - Nashville
A&R Transport - rail yard facility in Nashville
Bulkmatic - Hopkinsville,KY
Howard Baer (reefer) - Nashville
Interstate Distributor Company - Lebanon
Western Express - Nashville - (flatbed & dry van)
Plenty of tanker work around Nashville. One of them refuels train engines at the rail yard.
There's a cheap CDL school south of Murfreesboro on I-24 across street from Pilot. I think it's named Commercial Driver Institute, but not sure.
Use your father as reference; you teamed with him occasionally?
Tyson Foods has a facility in Goodlettsville.
Well, there's start. Best wishes. -
Thanks for the info. I'll start doing some homework and checking them out.

Hi Kevin, nice to meet you. My career has also been in manufacturing (various roles) for my entire adult life except for the past month. I'm actually a little freaked out by my new job since I am behind a desk nearly ALL the time :O I also want to get my CDL and go OTR after my daughter is grown in a few years. Good luck in finding something local for now and I'm sure that you and your wife will enjoy being OTR together.
