I was told by DISH that you needed that particular receiver, and was under the assumption that it would be part of the tailgater package. Looks like I might be wrong on both counts...

Ya, that's why I am seeking clarification from that driver's post. It is my understanding that you either have to buy or lease (the old 2-year commitment thing) a Vip211K exact receiver or it won't work.

He said that he "used one from home" so I am very curious.

It doesn't come as part of a "package" unless you buy a package. You can buy the Tailgater separately.

    Gears Thanks this.

sorry guys! I haven't checked this in a while. I used a 211K from home. There is another unit that will work but I think it is an older/discontinued model. It takes a special software upgrade but my box was over a year old and already had the software on it. It's a flash so most all 211K's are ready to go. But if not it's super easy to get Dish to send the software to the unit.

Also the Dish box is separate from the antenna. I suppose they do this because most people take a box from home since it's really designed for RV'ers and...well tailgaters ;)

I got the same setup, Prostar, Tailgater, and the 211z.

What did you use for the plate to mount it on if I may ask?

I was thinking of this exact thing, or right on top of the driver or pass side there is a flat space the TG will fit. But this looks easier.

Had any trouble with it trying to "walk away" while parked?

    Thanks

contemplating ordering this and my parents will let me attach it to their existing plan so that's nice but does it need to be up high? or anything with a straight to the south work? Is it wobbly when standing alone? Looks like a good wind gust could take it out.

It needs an unobstructed view of the southern sky. So anything straight to there. But more often than not, it means getting it high because of stuff blocking that line of sight.
