They used to be bad on 5, but 19, really, you can turn it on, turn up the linear, but can't figure out how to turn it off 19, IDIOTS. I'd like to splice a 110 volt line into their coax and smoke their radio.
Big radio's this is for you.

welcome to deregulation at its finest.

I just use it to know when they have been closing lanes on 94 in mn. I'm 100 air miles so I don't drive faster than 60 anywhere. I'm so fat I stop at 4 truck stops a day! I can't help myself!
-
90% of the so-called truck drivers today don't even have their radios on! They are too busy listening to howard stern or some b/s on xm.
Your 500 watts ain't getting it done for ya? Ya have a syetem issue. Get your system dialed in and you'll talk.
Ch.19 is a contact channel for me & I'll confirm contact then move on. I can run 6-8 hours and never hear a word til I or someone else wants to answer a far away station. That's when guys start whining and plug my ears. Show a little respect and let us make the contact. Turn your RF up, & your SQ down and listen. Like was said above...it's fun talkin FAR.
Quit pluggin my ears with snivel.
928 said that!Mad Dog 20/20 Thanks this. -
My setup works great. It's the other guys killing out the people I'm trying to get info from. I speak maybe 4 times a day on it. No need to abuse it.

i agree 100% NOBODY ever has their ears on anymore, i really hope CB's aren't dying off
-
I'd be willing to wager they are.

Dying off?
Are you kidding me? CB Radio officially died back in the early 80's...Then by the late 80's when Cell Phones first hit the market, it was almost the final nail in the coffin...One of the only reasons CB Radio is even still around, is the Trucking Industry still uses them, and with the Internet now, it makes it allot easier for guys to buy Amp's, and other illegal radio equipment (like the Export Radios) without having to worry about the FCC tracking you down for buying (even tho "buying" is not illegal..."Using" is illegal on 11 meter)
Back in the 70's, if you wanted to buy something like a Amp, or Export type radio, the deals were all done "under the table" so to speak...sorta like drug dealing! :smt033
Doubt it will ever just die off completely tho...but it may slow down a bit once the Skip cycle starts to fade away. -
I don't play much on the radio these days. In the morning for a bit before the airwaves become so crowded that even 500 watts doesn't seem to help much.
It is fun to make a long distance contact but once the dimwits come on with their recordings of Radio Check Radio check Radio check Radio check gettin on down getting on down gettin on down, or the 20 minutes of babbling about their cup of coffee, or their 10 minutes of babbling about how they cut so and sos lips off etc. I just get to the point were I turn the radio way down or off or just stay on the romper room channel (19) and have a quick chat with one of our drivers when I meet him on the road.
But it is hard finding a quiet channel now adays. Seems every channel is cluttered with skip. I was talking to one of our drivers the other day about how we should just get them two way comunicators and use them instead.
It sure would be nice to find one that has a remotely mounted antenna and a remote hand held mic while the main unit is mounted on the over head or dash like a CB and it is wired to the trucks power points rather then having batteries. Them things have more channels then you can shake a stick at, they out perform CBs as far as distance and do it with a 6 inch antenna. I have a set that I paid 60 bucks for and the wife and I have talked close to 20 miles on them many times. -
Rat, I'm sure you know this, but the skip thing comes and goes depending no where we are on the 11 year sun spot cycle. Depending on who you ask, some say were at the peak, some say 2015 is the peak....but eventually the skip will fade off and then the band will be less and less crowded.
I'm curious as to what radios you are referring to, where you can detach the head from the main unit, and stow the main unit under the dash/seat, as to not have a big clunky main unit out.....and you said it does it with a 6 inch antenna....sounds a lot like some sort of 450-470 MHz business band radio, although some 70 cm amateur radios do the same thing and have the same features.
