I thought that you were going to run team? Staying out of California may be a bit of a challenge with a reefer. Check the company listings on this and some of the other trucking forums for leads on whom to lease the truck.

I will go into California if I have a reload when I get there and I am not dead heading 500+ miles and then stuck out there 4-5 days and have to take cheap freight to get out of there that's why I don't like CaliforniaCalifornia

I would check those company listings that I mentioned and see if there might be a reefer company that would be a good fit. The only reefer company that I can think of is FFE, and I don't know that they have great rates. I believe they are based out of Texas. If you live near a truck stop you could pick up some of the trucking magazines. They are filled with ads wanting drivers and owner operators.

What about National Carriers out of Liberal, KS ??? Can't think of many other refer companies

I haven't heard anything negative about Sunco in Lakeland, FL. No hassle collection on the couple loads I've done for them and the brokers and office folks are cool to work with, but no idea about the lease program. They were going through a couple of acquisition/merger things earlier in the year. Probably got that all ironed out by now. I haven't had a recent opportunity to do business with them.
Personally I'd stay clear of the megas, although plenty to choose from that operate reefers: Central, Marten, CHR, Stevens, Knight, CRE, etc. Just visit any grocery DC or chicken plant in your neighborhood and read the names on the sides of the trucks at the cold docks.
Good luck. -
I made a reply in the other post where you originally asked these questions. I'm with the other posters here and I think you're really trying to move too fast. You say the owner will stay clear of the business at hand, but if you're just starting out and wanting to lease on somewhere do you realize you need capital to get started? Any company that you lease to who will basically finance your up front costs are going to get there money back first and foremost. You should be of the understanding that you're not going to make any money right now in the beginning. Unless you have money saved for your plates, insurance, etc. I would really slow down and take my time and research. O/O isn't always about the milk and honey.

Yeap, i hope it works out for them.

there's tons of companies looking to lease trucks. pick one and go to their website. I was just on Bill Thompson / FTI earlier today they're wanting trucks, pull your trailer or theirs. Buchanan Hauling and Rigging is still hiring O/O's I think. start clicking, you shouldn't have any trouble. Landstar, Mercer, ???

I am just going to throw my $.02 in, pretty vague info but maybe it will help, I met a guy in Minnesota maybe around the alexandria area?? but they said they to LTL refer hauling and have done very well hauling to smaller stores etc and doing what the big guys don't want, that said you can maybe google ltl refer in MN and see if anything pops up
