wanting to haul crude or water

No specs on Texas crude ops, but elsewhere like in ND crude hauls generally rule. Water is less stable overall work wise day in and day out throughout yr. About the only bad aspects with oil can be overwhelmed transload facilities,they are given daily allocations of rail tankers available to fill,(fill quick) and waiting in line to unload.(this is major issue in WY and CO just heard also) Another aspect with crude? Subbing through the right contract, this can be a complete hit and miss. Water is easier to get started with, and therefore has an overwhelming truck wannabe list of haulers waiting to do it. Last summer was a real bust for many in water, wouldn't know now by all the ads posted for water haulers. Crudes a tricky devil to get into,both as fore mentioned for contracts and trailer requirements. Having a push axle on the tractor and trailer is a norm, 205 barrel hauls told by one driver just yesterday common, so you'll want a good power unit. After all this being said, a real downer is critical shortage of available truck service centers. A mobile mechanic could write a steady ticket here, hyper demand for field repairs. If were coming in now,IMHO, suggest working a yr as an employee,find a niche,learn the routines, learn which equipment works best. Besides the cash outlay,it'll take some time to locate a good trailer if going for crude, waiting lists as much as 2yrs out on the dragons(super expense also)$$$$.

 

Look at craigslist northdakota/transportation jobs..
Its quite wonderfull there...I made 10k in one month, couldn't stay, gonna buy truck in couple years and perma work that region...all trucks make $135 and hour there..at least

 

Drive water if bottom-line money is what you want. Drive oil if stable work is what you want.

I know guys making $13k/mo gross hauling water. I don't know even one making that hauling oil. But then, the water guys go balls-out for days and then sleep a whole day when the frac is over and theyre waiting for another call. Oil is better for older guys and those who haven't lived OTR. My two cents.

If you havent driven oil before, your firm may require you to haul water first anyway... depends on how desperate they are for bodies in the trucks.

 

Hauling production water can be just as stable as hauling crude. Just have to get the well contract. Plus it doesn't freeze like fresh

 

Here in CO water is just as stable as crude just gotta get under the right company. But the money isn't there

 

I was talking about fresh, not production. Fresh can pay 50% higher than either production or oil.
