I was expecting an in and out experience in Springfield terminal yesterday. I took my bills to lineup, they checked them over and then said, "you cant leave until you get the tire pressure monitoring system installed on your truck"
Me: "Haha, Ive tried to get that thing installed the last 5 times I was in the shop and the shop always says they are too busy and my work has been farmed out to Detroit Diesel or Springfield Freightliner. So Ive got to get rolling and get my trainee home for thanksgiving. I really didnt need to stop here but to grab some mail and all the inbound/outbound parking is filled with bobtails"
Lineup: Your still cant leave.
Me: Ive left at least 5 times previously.
Lineup: Not when a truck burned to the ground with a tire fire last week. Seems the shop is pretty willing to squeeze anyone in now who needs it. Guess someone lit a fire under their butts.
Me: Spreading like wildfire.
By the time I dropped my trailer I was contacted by phone and directed straight into a shop bay.
Me: Wow, no wait
Tech: Yeah, these things are a priority now.
Me: Truck fire huh?
Tech: Yep.
Me: They understand this truck is being turned in at the first of the year. Im parking it here in three weeks for a three week medical leave and Im getting back just in time to move my stuff into another truck.
Tech: yep.

They'll just put the system on another truck

Classic over-reaction. One truck burns down and all of the sudden the company gets a bug up its collective bum about air pressure monitoring systems.
I'm presuming from the need to install the system that the fire was in some way related to tire pressure probably brought about by a driver who couldn't be bothered to do a simple tire check during pre- or post-trip, or an in-route tire check. Once again an over-reliance on technology to combat human laziness or incompetence.NavigatorWife, TRKRSHONEY and EZX1100 Thank this. -
Actually several trucks caught fire after they started using the wide singles before they decided to get the monitors. After the latest one somebody probably got in trouble for not getting them all installed. If there is a simple tire check that will let you predict when a tire is going to loose pressure, they must not know about it. These tires heat up pretty quick if they get low and you're loaded heavy. Out of all the new technologies they put on these things now, this is one of the few that seems have a good use, to me anyway.

I don't know nuttin about the super-singles. Duallies had a fairly simple check. Just use an air gauge during pre-trip, post-trip, and fuel to ensure proper air pressure.

They got me like that too. Left that morning to drag a trlr to the kraft plant for them, came back with student to top off and washout the empty I got and they wouldnt let me leave, BEST PART, the system doesn't work, keeps losing signal, told them before I left the shop, they said it would work itself out, NOPE, called 24 hours later and they said nothing they can do, What a waste of money
-
They installed them on the company trucks here and many dont work properly so drivers just ignore it ayway.
-
So it takes what, about 2 minutes (including stretching, yawning and spitting) to stick the tires in the morning before ya get going?
-
They sent me a message to come in and have it installed a few months ago and I'm still waiting to hear about the deer guard rust magnet.
Just avoid SPRIMO for anything, or at least inbound, that place is a zoo. -
Thats the problem, Too many idiots aren't doing it
