Hey all! Well i've been reading these fourms for probably over a year awaiting the right time to start ff trucking. My dad and grandfather were both truckers and I have always wanted to follow suit. Looking to go to prime december 4th! something I read on here had be a bit concerned though in on the fourms guy talked about if you were overweight or snored you had to pay a thousand or so dollars for some machine and do a bunch of BS. Well I'm 5'8 230lbs although I feel im not out of shape just last month I was playing ice hockey and running miles although I do have a beer gut and a chubby face I know I can touch my toes and duck walk and all that fun DoT stuff without breaking a sweat, never had any medical issues period and im not even sure if I snore however my wife informs me that sometimes i do... hmmph... Is this something I need to be super worried about I'm quitting a job to go down to school and don't want to get down there adn them be like gtfo of here fatty. I don't have the best job now but it is a job and i don't want to throw it away for nothing. any info is appreciated so like I said, im overweight but athletic never any medical issues or sleep problems just wanting to drive a truck and make a living.. Neck size is the other thing. I think over 17 inch necks will get you a sleep study.

#### i think im around 17 excatly and im expected to pay for this sleep study? i mean i don't mind a bunch of guys standing over me while i sleep i guess as long as they remain fully clothed... but what does all this entail.

Your BMI is right at 35 and that is the normal criteria when they flag you for a cpap. Now I know that's my companies criteria. 35+bmi and or 17 inch and above neck size. You lose a few more pounds you might not be flagged for the sleep study. Not sure what Prime's requirements are but I'm sure they are probably not to far from that. i better watch myself this thanksgiving then lol but Im sure i can dro at least 5-10 lbs before the 4th guess i should get to running huh lol.

I did a lot of walking about a mile or 2 a day and started dropping pounds. Need to start back. The fat in the neck is what causes you to lose sleep because it closes off your air way when laying down making your body work hard and not get the rest because its constantly alerting your brain that you are about to suffocate yourself. Not sure of any neck exercises but if you start losing some pounds it may take a few inches off the neck as well.

well right now and for last 4 or 5 years ive been a server so walking is my profession lol. but eating is another one and I love fried food
but I have the willpower to lose the lbs but I only have till the 4th and 2 of those days will be on a bus so I emean realistically I can drop maybe 10lbs at most so I don't know what that will do for my neck but hey guess its worth a shot.. Im not terrified of a sleep test because I believe I don't have any medical issues but I just cant pocket it.

Just remember....weight and neck size are not the sole determining factors of a sleep apnea diagnosis. In my own case, it is as much hereditary as anything, though a loss of 75 pounds on my part would certainly improve my overall health. My father is my height and 90 pounds lighter, and he's been on CPAP for a dozen years. He is a physician, BTW.

Oh ya I had to lay off the fried foods and was eating salads as well. Where do you live?

Neck size may or may not be relevant. OSA is normally caused by loose tissue in the back of the throat which causes the collapse of the upper airway. There are some technical medical terms involved but in my case when my weight goes down my OSA lessens a bit but when I drink alcohol, it gets worse.
