Have a dilemma, I used to own my truck and drove for tranus intermodal back in 99/2000 quit when the freight got slow and went to being a mechanic. I am ready to give it another try, still have cdl and have signed up for trucking school to take a refresher crouse. The problem i has is i want to still pull containers but i cant find a intermodal company that will take students. Do i need to just sign up with big over the road company , get a year expercience and then go back to the container companys. I just dont want to get struck in a long contract with a otr company.
Been out of trucking for a while/new start

Some major carriers have an intermodal division. Schneider & JB Hunt may; they used to anyway. There are others also.
-
Okay thanks i will try both of them

Marten Transport has an intermodal division. It's a top notch company. Call and ask what you need to do. -
You looking for O/O status or employee? If employee, no question start with JB somewhere's then go to Intermodal. Their cans are well made and they have semi cornered the rail market for now. They are agressively looking for people such as your self, provided come clean on DAC(fruckin drivercontrol feature)
If Marten really has a solid intermodal? Then that might be something, but JB is expanding in this market so fast(check this though)imagine much more oppurtunities there. Schneider has last heard 500million dollar push towards rail, but they had exp prerequisites that restrict a new driver from earning all that much in intermodal until hit that magic 7th yr -
I mentioned Marten intermodal, because don't know where sam boyd lives. If not mistaken, Marten's intermodal is in Northeast, ie NJ, NY area. -
I live in georgia and i am trying to get o/o stratus asap.
-
Since you live Georgia you should have absolutely no problem finding a good job pulling containers. There's probably thousands of them! I would hold off on the refresher course unless potential employer mandates you take it. Most large companies are going to make you do it but the smaller, mom and pop companies most likely will not. Up to you, but will definitely save you money.
Try looking on Craigslist and also here is another website you can check out...
