Earned a felony in Iraq 2003, need help finding a company!

listen i got a felony from a little over ten years ago. It was a ##### trying to find job at first. Ive had to trucking jobs so far. by the way MTC in st louis doesnt check backgrounds for students. there sponsors when applying for work do tho. I started with a agency that said if i can pass a driving test they would hire me. So look for a agency first cause there main concern is filling the position. I worked for the Harley Davidson plant in pa with a felony and no experience. I only made $13 hr tho. after 3 months I found a new job in a smaller company running dump trailers and flatbeds making $800 to $1600 a week. just be patient. and dont tell more than what u have to

 

First, why did you leave your post without authorization? Soldier, you are trained for discipline for a reason! You are in the military, in a warzone, you don't leave your post without authorization to take a crap, unless immediate circumstances dictate. Hell, if you're a Marine, you ain't even allowed to DIE without authorization!

That said, you apparently learned your lesson and no harm was done. Chalk it up to being young and dumb, and gods know we have all been guilty of such. Heck, if I could give you some stories from my own younger days, you'd probably laugh yourself senseless.

Now, as I understand it military tribunal convictions do not show up on civilian criminal records unless you serve incarceration time within the US. In other words, getting tossed into the stockade for a day or two isn't going on your civilian criminal record. Serving a few years breaking rocks at (its on the tip of my brain, and that's the dustiest part...the most commonly known military prison in the US...couple of movies featured it...someone help me out here!) will show up. You're conviction should not show up, so it's none of the business of civilian employers.

Its done this way to protect the ability of veterans to seek employment after serving their tours. Let's face it, combat duty places soldiers into situations that civilians do not face and have no frame of reference to understand. And depending upon where you were, the desertion of post may not have been that big a deal depending on the situation. However, the military views any desertion of post as a serious violation. Again, it goes back to the concept of discipline.

 

Unless you have walked in someone else s shoes in combat, your opinion is not warranted nor cared for by most Vets.

 

if everything I got caught doing when was in followed me back, I'd never get a job flipping burgers. LOL

I can't believe this happend in 03. People got away with so much that year it's insane. Sounds to me like somebody got power hungry

 

Don't volunteer any information. You can pay to have a criminal history check and see if it comes up. Are you barred from owning a firearm? If so then it probably shows up. Were convicted in a military court or civilian court? What does your discharge paperwork say? What happened in Iraq should stay in Iraq. Very few who are hiring will understand.

Are you talking about Levinworth? I wouldn't worry about what happens in Iraq. Just don't volunteer information. Pull your criminal record up and see what's on there. If it;s not on there, zipped lips here.
