I currently have a hazmat endorsement and always have. Last time around I had to go thru TSA or a back gorund check, 130 bucks I believe. On renwal does anyone know if you have togo thru the whole song and dance over again.

from what i understand you do. from taking the test to getting finger printed.
-
Yes, you do have to go through the whole thing again. I'm due for a renewal as well and I'm seriously thinking about letting it go. My wife for some reason thinks I should keep it though. We'll see what I decide to do soon enough. lol.
-
In TX you have to take test every 5 yrs I think. I keep it up, but rarely use it.
-
Yup...kinda pointless in my opinion, since if you had done anything which would disqualify you from having the endorsement since the last time you jumped through their hoops, you'd still be sitting in a reserved room at the gray bar motel.
I dropped the endorsement last time around...didn't use it enough to justify paying a ridiculous sum of money to prove the obvious to people who really don't matter.
Besides, I'm not keen on the whole "put your sensitive personal information on the internet" idea. -
Not what I wanted to hear, but it is what I suspected.... It's all about the Money.

I gotta do the same here shortly...

I just renewed mine a few months ago. I was allowed to skip the fingerprinting and pay $60 instead of the full amount because I have a TWIC card that doesn't expire until 2014. Somehow they are linking the background checks. Saved me a trip to the data gathering facility for a couple of years. My license expires in 2014 as well so I would have had to make a trip down to the DMV then anyway.

the BS about the renewal, was when i added it to my CDL when i first started driving, i had 2 years left on my license before i had to renew. when i went to renew, they were telling me i had to renew the HAZMAT as well even though it is a 5 year endorsement and i had only had it for 2 years. so i didnt fool with the thing. i never hauled a haz load anyway.
