Back when Sandy hit and my Volvos DPF filter decided to take a dump, my company rented me a daycab to finish my run and pick up my reload back to El Paso. It was a 2013 ProStar with a MaxxForce.
Kept putting off posting this until now, lol. Anyways...
I had always liked the looks of the ProStar and I finally had the opportunity to drive one.
I realize it was a daycab but honestly, this truck rode like total crap. By the time I got back to Buffalo from my drop in Syracuse and pickup in Camden, NY, my whole body hurt. The fit and finish on the truck was terrible. It only had 6500 miles on it but the shift knob was coming apart. Rain leaked in through the door seals. I did like the steering wheel controls.
As for the MaxxForce, that engine was gutless. I drive a fat overweight Volvo 780 sleeper and its ISX didn't bog down like the MaxxForce. Almost felt like I was dragging 47,000 lbs or more in my wagon instead of the 41,000 I had on board. I was topping hills at 55 that my truck would have taken at at least 62 or 63.
At any rate I feel for any drivers driving a ProStar with a MaxxForce, I understand why you may have to get out and push, lol.
My impressions of MaxxForce and the Prostar.

Yeah the MaxxFarce is pretty weak. I like Internationals though. You know a rental truck is gonna be abused, even at 6500 miles. And day cabs always ride rougher than sleepers.
-
We got some 2013's in and I was offered one. After I checked it out, I decided to pass on it. I also used one of our daycab prostars on a roundtrip of about 900 miles and it was brutal..low mileage as well and rattled like it was 15 yrs old.

What had me laughing is one of the guys at the shipper saw my rig and exclaimed "you're not rolling to El Paso all the way in THAT are you?"
-
My company did me a "favor" and moved me "up" to a Prostar/Maxfarce, after one day I tossed such a fit that within 3 days I had my old truck back! YEAH!!! I did like how quiet that Maxforce was tho but thtas about it.

My old LTL company abandoned International because they just kept getting worse and the MAXIFORCE is complete junk. Nothing more than a half ### version of a Cummins.

The Swift Prostars with the ISXs ran pretty good.
They also rode better than the Volvo 670s they had.
The Prostars were really loud when it was Windy though, had a weird Door Seal. -
Huh, I don't have that many complaints about my '13 Prostar with a MF13....except for the utter lack of power, and a nearly non-functional jake. Honestly, I've driven Cat C11's/Cummins M11's that pulled MUCH harder. It'd be a nice truck with a real motor in it. A few complaints I do have, though:
1. Excessive bump steer. This thing across the GWB is downright hard to keep in lane. On smooth roads its great.
2. Lots of cab/sleeper bounce. Had a look underneath and discovered that the only suspension on the sleeper is a pair of airbags and limiter straps. NO SHOCKS?! WTF?
3. The leveling valve on the rear suspension absolutely SHRIEKS, at completely random intervals. Almost like it's got a bit of dirt stuck in it..but it's loud enough that if it's having one of its fits I avoid DOT stations like the plague. -
My Pro Star is one of the biggest pieces of garbage I've ever had the misfortune to drive. The wind noise is unbelievable. I have a electrical ghost that moves from one system to another. It's been in the shop 4 times for this with one 114000 miles on it.
Mine has the Maxi Force engine in it. If there is even a rumor of a hill it starts slowing down.
On the up-side... Who am I kidding ? There is no up-side to it. -
ProStar....use it up and throw it away type of truck.
Glad mine has the 475 ISX.
300k on it now and the ride quality has went way down.
Just had all new Michelins put on along with shocks and an alignment. Now the cab shocks are shot....
.
I had a rental 2013 model for a day with the MaxxForce....what a POS!
Could hardly drive it!
