I can agree with turbo on this issue..i tried the scam school route and man everyone of them i talked to i could just smell a rat. The people i talked to sounded like good salesmen instead of people that cared about my career decision. I eventually waited and went to a community college and it ended up costing me 750 to complete the course. I strongly recommend to anyone to try the college route first.

Where can you find truck training for only $750 or so?

I saw that the local truck schooling cost $4000, probably rip off.

Trucu, good advice, generally speaking. Many people dont have the time to go through a Community College and need something quicker. Thats where the teaching companies like Swift, Werner, Schneider, and so on come in. If you fulfill your commitment, its free, well sort of. There are all sorts of intangibles that cost you in some form or another.

then again, I went to a truck driving school and it cost me $5000 and it was worth every penny spent. It was the best money I ever spent on myself.

I don't know where you live, but I can say that truck schools in Chicago are cheap,or cheaper than the rest.I paid 2500$ four years ago,now is even cheaper,i think under 2000$.I passed tests on my own,so I got my permit before I started training in school, and school was even cheaper because of that.I got my CDL after 5 weeks spent in school, passed everything in first attempt,PTI(45 minutes of pure hell),skills and street driving.2008 was bad year for trucking,I couldn't find a job till april '09,and in the first 3 months of 2009,more than 1000 trucks in Chicago area was returned to the banks, because owners couldn't afford payments, thats how bad it was.Hope that wont happen again.Good luck with schooling

There's no such thing as free... even sort of.

All that money they 'loan' you supplements the money they are making off you while you're 'training'. I went the driving school route and the cost was contractual, up front and not questionable or manipulated by add-ons like your trucking mills (C.R. England is one of the worst trucker wannabee mills out there).
