Hi guys, fresh and new to the community, stumbled upon trying to search how hard the job ahead of me is going to be and first off great place here. Now to get to the point I have a 2000 w900L and I'm just curious if anyone knows or has replaced their hood hinges how hard of a job I'm in store for. Any tips, advice or comments are welcome as I love getting an outside opinion. Thanks for any and all help

If its the same as on a 2006 w9 , when you take it loose , the hood moves forward on you, pretty strongly. There are four Teflon inserts, 2 per side ,that fit over the hood pin. These are where the wear takes place. Even after you replace them , the hood will still shake some , on a rough road. If the Teflon inserts are worn thru , you'll have a steel pin , rubbing against an aluminum piece. If that's so, figure on replacing the aluminum part. My dealer printed out the diagram for me, it was helpful. That alum piece is bolted to a steel block , with steel bolts . Add some water ,a little salt , time , and good luck getting it unbolted. I just bought all new . You'll be ahead of the game , if you have all the parts with you, before you start.tommygun58 Thanks this.

had to replace the mounts on the hood and add spacers to my 05 W900L. I unbolted the rectangle blocks one at a time and then added the spacers. after doing this the hood was a little shifted to the drivers side so had to adjust it by loosening them up again and playing with the hood to get it straight. The issue was that the front end of the hood rubbed on the radiator cap and screwed up the cap so bad I had to have a local rad shop replace the filler neck with a new insert $95. after the inserts were added I had to add height to the rear by adding a hockey puck to each of the mounts. Problem solved. To answer the actual question the total job was fairly easy and I did infact unbolt and bot the front mounting blocks and didnt replace the hinge bushings but should have. es it still shakes a bit but thats the norm..

thanks for the info guys. It really wasn't that bad of a job to do I just rolled up my sleeves and dove in and after doing the first one the second was so much easier. The tips really helped and made it an easy job instead of a pain the neck. greatly appreciated

How did you support the hood? I am about to have to tackle this project on a KW T600 ... thanks in advance for any info that you can pass along

Hockey pucks! Oh yeah. Thanks a lot for that. My hood keeps sinking down where it rubs holes in the fiberglass. I patched it once and used some large washers. That worked for a while. Now its doing it again. Sank so bad faux denser rubbed holes in my ac condenser. Time to do hinges and hockey pucks!
