The bottoming out comes from team operations. One driving, one trying to sleep. One rule covers it all. As an inspector, he can get in the truck, but is limited to criteria covered in the FMCSR. Nah, I switched to a memory foam mattress at home years ago. HUGE improvement in sleep. Memory foam mattress and 600 thread count sheets, try it some time. Not necessarily good for the hibbity dibbity...but I will most likely be solo. As far as the sponge comment...you could be referring to so many things, but my experience is that it's nothing to worry about.
