Not only do I feel your pain, I also experienced it (Windsor crossing). I was in Detroit when I got the request to take a load into Canada. Since I do carry a book passport, I agreed to go.
    Mistake #1.
I had recently gone to a gun show in PA (we do have them frequently and I'm a frequent attendee). I had purchased a holster ($23) for my Taurus PT145 and threw it in my go bag, the one I throw in my truck when I'm out on the road.
    Mistake #2.
I crossed into Canada and, realizing that the holster was in the bag, too late (Mistake #3), when asked if I had any weapons or paraphernalia they should know about, I rationalized that it was best to inform them about the holster (Mistake #4).
They asked me where the gun was. "There is no gun... just a holster".
To make your story and complaint more viable, the agent, an ignorant guy to be polite, refused to believe me and threatened to 'bring out the dogs' who, interestingly enough, turned out to be two female agents that were hardly fitting of the label.
They went through the truck while I stood, without a jacket in the cold and was told to stand in the shade. After standing there for probably 5 minutes, I asked if I could have a jacket from my truck. "No, just stay put right where you are" I was told. I asked, "Does this make you feel more in control or powerful or something?"... I then told him I was going to at least stand in the sun to which he replied, "No,... you stand right there where I can see you". I walked over to the sunny part of the lot and he started screaming at me to stay put. I said, "Are you going to shoot me for wanting to be warm?... then go ahead, make an international incident. I'm standing where I can get some warmth". He got frustrated but let me do it.
When they didn't find anything, I was refused entry and sent back to the U.S. Border where my truck was X-Rayed.

They didn't find a gun either.

I don't go to Canada anymore... you couldn't pay me enough to go through such ignorant harassment by those pricks again.

Should be the attitude of every driver. There was one time in my life that I respected an officer of the "law", no more! I wouldn't piss on one if their guts were on fire.

I believe the saying you may be looking for is, "I wouldn't piss in his mouth if his tongue was on fire."

Just bare in mind, those rude, government workers are employed by the government, the same government you will be making the complaint to. I would recommend just blowing it off otherwise this is just going to cost you money ending in the same result if not worse. Welcome to the USA!
