I have two trucks and trailers now and have been thinking sometime on which use would best benefit me?
I really don't want no one runnnig under my authority either as a bad driver can ruin a small operation. I also don't want to fool with payroll taxes. meaning I would have to lease/rent or something where I could legally 1099 the driver.

    1. I have been thinking of a second authority for the rentor/leasee to run under?
    2. lease/rent only the trailer for rentor/leasee to run under the 2nd authority?
    3. rent/lease/purchase the trailer out under a second autority?
    4 let them set like thay've been doing as a backup/spare ?

I'm leaning towards the second authority and renting trailer out to it. that way a driver would have to have his own truck to drive/destroy and not mine.
My percentage would be smaller but I wouldn't have to worry with repairs/maintance issues.

    Anyone tried this before?

Well, kind of and it did not work well. My buddy did this and lost his trailer, my suggestion is not to rent the trailer at all and keep it hooked to your own truck.

Depends on how you can keep track of things being a O/O

People ruin equipment that isn't theirs, I made the two guys working for me get their own, one is leased to me, the other has his own authority.

I had a driver destroy one of my trucks iside of 3 weeks last year.

Hey my name is Robert if you haven't got that other authority yet or if you have email me at radams0974@gmail.com. I use to and for 5 years until motor blew run cars with my dodge 3500 and 3-4 car wedge trailer from mostly Florida to Texas I now live in Ocean Springs,ms. I still have my old company name and dot numbers regeristered with FMSCA all I have to pay is like 500 and that gets my plates back and everything restored. I called the other day but I have 16 years otr and driving and would be interested in driving for you under my old authority so you don't have to file and get a whole new authority set up when I already have one. Please contact me and let's talk thanks Robert
