Was passing the 46mm eastbound and saw puffs of white smoke coming from right from of truck...Checked gauges as I made my way to shoulder, all showed good...As soon as I pull over, the smoke starts rolling, I shut down, get out and when I walked around right side to unlatch hood, I could see flames coming out between hood and windshield...I ran around to driver's side, grabbed fire extinguisher, used it up to no avail...Ever felt totally helpless?...I ran back around to see if I could grab anything out of truck, within seconds it wasn't safe and I had to retreat...This whole span of time from seeing the puffs of smoke to the helpless feeling was less than 2 mins...Police were there within minutes, the fire dept took almost 15 minutes, tractor was fully engulfed by then...Amazingly, trailer survived, not even black soot...

Wow. That's right in my neck of the woods. Traffic is messed up enough there and you just feel entitled to screw it up more, don't you?

Sounds like you did the right thing... get out, waste the inappropriate fire extinguisher (you're kidding, right?... a 10 pound extinguisher? - I know kitchens better equipped) and stay clear. Police and fire never come in time... but they do come.

Glad you're safe and alive... I can remember watching a trucker fry from my fire truck because his seat belt kept him from exiting in time... it was too hot to get to him too... still a vivid memory seeing that guy struggling...

Stay safe out there, be smart and don't do stupid.

Sorry to hear about the fire but I'm glad to hear that you made it out of there okay. Your wife sounds like my husband with the "what if" scenarios...
