Mine was a 5EK 40 pin and had a 5DS file put in.

I know the older c-12 motors had 40 pin also is it the same ecm? If so then you can flash it so it could be used on 3406. The 3176 also?
-
6NZ --last of the pre-emission C15
7CZ --last of the C16 (pre-emission then discontinued)
MBN ---bridge motor...single turbo
BXS,MXS,NXS....twin turbo ashurt(accert)
70 pins are serial numbers 2WS, 1MM, 6NZ, 7CZ, and MBN. "pre-emmision", not NOX. The early 40 pin were pre low NOX.
Professor Haney can rattle off dates, files, serial #'s. etc while he is sleeping...

The 3176 ECM will not take a 3406E file...it has no provision for cylinder cutout, among other things.

As to how many and what the serial number prefixes are for the 3406E..........there are too many to list when you consider the industrial, mining, truck, generator, machine, and marine engines. They are used in many different variations and power ratings depending on the application and can have either 40 or 70 pin ECMs.
