I've kinda lost count how many times I've done this and I am still looking for a "good" route. This time I requested a new one from PennDot, we will see how it goes. Last week it took an hour to get through the construction on I-81 N near Minersville, PA. Anyone got anything better than this route below?

    I-95 N > Rt 202 N > Rt 100 N > US 30 west > RT 41 S > Rt 741 west > RT 896 N > to US 30 west > Rt 283 > I-81 south > US 22 North > US 11 North > RT 54 north > I-80 East > I-81 N > NY Line

Why cant you run rt 202 to rt 422 to rt 222 up to rt78 east to rt33n to rt80 rt380 to rt81n. Just me but if they do not give a better route i would run back 95s to rt695 and go up rt83. By the time you mess with all those roads in PA it would more than likely be faster to go south then north. The way there sending you stinks plain and simple IMO.

Straight up 83 to 81. Your going to waste so much time with lights and little roads it wont be worth it. That route is way out of the way.

It's not the most direct route (going South to get North) so I doubt if PennDOT would allow me to go that way. Plus I think there's width restrictions on I-83. Plus there's construction on I-81 N near Frackville...that's at least an hour.

Yeah I thought about this one. Saves me ~70 miles
compared to my route above. I decided against it because the first place for me to shut down (that I know of) would be north of Scranton. I will be out of daylight at 4:30 and didn't want to get stuck without a place to park.

Yes there is the tolls, and two or three extra permits. Plus the NYSTA permits are only good for 24 hours before they expire.....I've been burned enough with delays causing permits to expire that I just automatically avoid NY toll roads anymore.

95 through PA to US1 in NJ to 287 to 87 is another option but still leaves the NYSTA. NJ permits are cheap.

Right now the construction on 81 is wrapping up and the delays will be minimal through the Frackville area. They will be starting before long near Delano as the crossovers are being completed.

Of course last week would have been much worse than normal as it was Thanksgiving week and one of the busiest travel holidays there are, shouldn't really use that as an example of what "normal" is.
