Don't ya just love it when weeks go like that- And right back to your home area before dark on Friday?

Maybe I will see ya up there on Monday Sewerman. I deliver in Skokie and then I know that I will be re-loading at USS E. Chicago, IN. What is your truck # again? Maybe I will see ya at the Gary yard.

There were two of us who went down to Pine Bluff last night and loaded broker loads for a short trip to Jackson TN. I loaded mine then came back home until tomorrow afternoon. I'm not complaining about the extra time off though because I hadn't really rested at home since last spring.

Our freight out of Arkansas is slow right now until inventories even out. We do have a good bit of freight in TN. I expect to be out until Christmas. Unfortunately, without my Kindle. My replacement Kindle is supposed to be delivered Monday.

    Remember when?

    Most trucks were COE's?

The drivers seat used a shock instead of air for suspension?

    Air ride...What's that?

Other people actually fueled our trucks for us?

    There were no satellite pumps?

    There were no Qualcomms?

    There were no cell phones?

Pay phones and the age old phrase.."Call back in an hour."?

Dispatchers actually used a board on the wall to keep track of loads and truck?

Lining staples up to replace torn out log pages?

There were no truck stops with fast food?

76 was the most popular truck stop chain?

The national speed limit was 55 mph?

Of course I'm dating myself because I remember all of this. My first truck was a 1984 International COE 9670 without power steering.

I had a pretty good week last week. I unloaded in Georgetown, Ky Monday finally got a load out of Ghent, Ky that didn't pick up the next day. I took it to Ryerson in Little Rock Wednesday. Was deadheaded to Malvern, AR at Reynolds picking up a coil going to Terre Haute, IN. I got there about midnight and went ahead and unloaded. Next morning got a load picking up lumber in Montezuma, IN going to Luck, WI for Friday. (knew I wasn't going home then). I got there that night and unloaded first thing in the morning and while getting unloaded, I was sent a msg saying head to Saukville, WI asap. So after getting unloaded I left and was on my way when work assignment came across and my FM calling me. He said CSR needs you in Shawano, WI by 1430. Shawano was on my way to Saukville; so I figured it up and told him I would be there by 1330. Picked up a load of lumber out of Shawano and brought it down here to Laredo, TX. I unloaded this morning and was told there was no freight and head to the truck stop. Hopefully I will get a load tomorrow morning.

For the guy worried about home time. I was overseas for a year and hardly got to talk to my family on the phone as we were on missions nearly the whole time. At least now I can call them anytime I want and like the other guys said. If you are worried about being home, you won't make it out here. In the past month and half I have been hung out more than I have been home. At least with getting hung out, I have gotten some kick butt runs. The trainer I had didn't live anywhere near me and I was gone from home a month and a half. I am in no way trying to get you scared of trucking, but it's better to know now then find out later. If you are married your wife can go with you on the road. Mine has gone with me several times. Best of luck and everyone have a safe week.

    sewerman Thanks this.
