H.O. Wolding orientation on Nov. 26th!

    Your orientation is different than new out of school cdl holders. You will road test on Monday and fill out paperwork. I'm not sure if they make you do yard work or not. You will be assigned a tractor and then will need to do a through going over of the truck. You'll fill out a form for the shop and they will get it in and do an inspection of their own.

    We do have some older trucks. I drive a 2003 that will soon be taken away. I think I might cry a little at that. I have not had any issues with my truck, while those with brand new trucks spend time in the shop working out the bugs. The shop does a great job taking care of the equipment but alot of that depends on the driver. If the driver doesnt tell them somethings wrong then they can't fix it. Heres a hint, keep a list of the little repairs that need to be done and then when you bring your truck in for its PM get it all done at one time. That includes loose doors, rattling cabinets, etc etc. Get those little things fixed it may not bother you but the driver after you will have to fix it later. When I first got my truck the shop spent three days working on it. While I hated the waiting, it came out with more new parts than old. They had gone through it with a fine tooth comb.

    I'm currently on paper logs and will most definitly cry when I have to go elogs. What you start with depends on your truck. Beginning Jan 1st all trucks going into California must be year 2010 or newer, as team drivers I would suspect you will end up with one of those however its no guarantee. New drivers such as your wife always start with the older trucks, they figure being new your going to hit something so why wreck a new truck. So I really cant say what you will get.

    There is the possibility that after the first of the year Wolding will have a new female trainer. Shes currently trying to make a decision on whether she wants to become a trainer or not. They *may* be one of the reasons they are having your wife wait. If this driver does decide to train and your wife goes with her, I promise you it will
    be worth the wait! If not its simply because they want to make sure your wife isnt sitting in a hotel room alone over Christmas while trainers are doing their own home time.

    Bram, your answer is partially correct except it is 2008 models with the DPF that are allowed in California. very interesting thread and keep it going please.

    How true is that California deal as far as truck age? I don't know if I'm ready to let Louise go just yet. But I have to go to California as well...

    Its 2008 model year and up eqip with DPF filter/other emmission stuff that are allowed in. All others (08 pre dpf-96) are not permitted. However, I do believe 96 and older are exempt until 2015 time frame.

    Dang, looks like I'll have to get a newer truck. I take it 2007 with an APU still doesn't qualify? Really REALLY don't want elogs yet.

    Yoou'd have to ask HOW. The information I have is for single truck operators. Fleets may have a certain time to get legal after 2013. Or you could not go into California and wait until you get a new truck.

    Well Hello everyone! I'm very sorry for not posting over my week at Orientation! I tried posting from the Bunk house a couple days last week and the computer I was using was having problems. I'll fill you in on my week at H.O. Wolding now! To start with I made it through everything and am a Wolding employee with about 300 miles on the books and sitting under a load at home right now. I will be headed to Stevens point Wisc Copps / Roundies tomorrow. Then I will be headed to Clarksville Tn. with a load out of Wapaca that delivers late Monday or early Tuesday I guess? Anyways I am very happy to be working for this company so far! I think me and my wife found our match! Very friendly helpful bunch of people in this company. In my first week here I feel like I'm part of a large family and not a company. I am defiantly not a number here! The orientation was very good, although I was the only experienced driver, it was very personable as I was 1-1 with Instructors.

    Day 1 Physical, Yard driving test, and 2 hours of paperwork. Physical and yard test passed. I must say Diane, and Butch are great people. Fran is a good guy a little grumpy I think though, those are the main people in training.

    Day 2 3 student drivers come in and I finally get to eat a meal with Wolding employees. Monday was on my own all day for eating except I turned in all receipts for reimbursement.
    Back to day 2 Road test with Fran, Passed and at the same time I was issued my truck which is a 2003 Freight Shaker #1238 1220020 miles on it. Qual Com class more paper work I met with people from safety, log books, and also some more paper work.

    Day 3 Wednesday it wasn't as full of a day as the first 2 days, but had more classes on Qual com and a few other things and you guessed it more paperwork. Also this is the day in the morning they said they got my pee test back and I am hired! We had to take care of a few more loose ends and I did a real good once over on 1238 and turned it over to the shop to get everything fixed. I also met my dispatcher at the end of day 3, Shawn seems like a great guy lots of people have good things to say about him and having worked with him now since Thursday I can believe them!

    Day 4 my last day in Amherst Wi. The beginning of the day I had some loose ends to finish with again (paperwork, safety) and waited for my truck to get out of the shop. My truck got out of the shop at 1:00 pm and Shawn had a preplan for me to get out of the yard at 3:30 and head to Addison Ill. 45 minutes from home.

    Got unloaded in Addison Friday morning, went to Montgomery Il. for a drop and hook and was home with my wife by 2:30 for the weekend.

    On a sad note when I left on Thursday I found out one of the student drivers was sent home. I guess the school he came out of only gave him 1 day of road driving and he could't shift the truck right.
    After I saw what they put the students through I am very confident that my wife (Bktrkrwannabe) will do fine there. They are not sure what they are going to do as far as her training yet as they do not have a female trainer at this time. Rumors are someone maybe coming on as one soon not sure though.

    So there you have Orientation for an experienced driver at H.O. Wolding! Again I'm sorry for the delay in reporting on this. Oh and if you happened to be in to be at the terminal any of the days I was there and saw a guy walking around with a Black Hawks jacket on that was me. :biggrin_255:
