I have been looking around the site for a while but now and used some info on here on my truck. Now heres my problem did a oil change this morning and found a rather large chunk of steel on the magnent of the oil plug looks like a tooth from a gear not sure any info would be greatly appresiated. I was lucky to land work for the truck for MOST of the winter being the owner of a dumptruck getting work for most of the winter is luckyn, ow I have to put it down for this problem.

Heres a couple pics hope they help

I would'nt worry too much, from the looks of it it's just a small chunk of a flywheel gear if it came fm the engine should'nt do too much damage unless it's not working right or the truck's engine, starter, or trans is starting to act up it happens fm time 2 time.
Just to play it safe, show it to a experienced mechanic since it is a dump truck hauling more than a 18 wheeler esp in construction sites & have the engine, trans,& starter checked for any missing gear, depending on the yr of the truck when a truck gets old parts of the truck some times wear out & worn pieces getys magnetized on to the oil pan bolt's magnet. It a early warning signal to have it serviced ASAP so long as that piece didn\'nt grind into the engine & end up messing up the engine like on the turbo (Like happened to me driving an XLseries Freightliner yrs ago in the middle of night) Definitely get it checked out ASAP OK?

NAH don't worry it's just a chunk of metal. you have plenty of metal in engine to make up for any lost. :biggrin_25524: I'd be shirtin bricks if it was me.

Can you explain how a piece from the starter/flywheel or the transmission might end up in the engine oil? :biggrin_25521:

If that's IN the oil, then you are about a days walk away from a major engine failure.

Take it to a Detroit shop and have them go over the engine. And take that piece with you.

I'm not laughing at your problem just the response of a piece of flywheel in your oil. That would be a first. Lol
