Not sure what your definition of a "good company" is but How about this:
A Northeast regional truckload carrier that gets their drivers home each weekend.
A non-union company.
Pays for congestion pay in the 5 burroughs of NYC, Downtown Boston, and Downtown Chicago.
.38 to .40 cpm to start based upon experience and where you live.
Multi stop pay.
Extra pay for weekend pickup or delivery at customer.
Paid for detention after 2 hours past appointment time.
If your truck breaks down you get paid "breakdown pay"
Trucks are assigned to the driver.
Up to 3 weeks paid vacation.
3 paid sick days, 2 paid personal days, 6 paid holidays.
BC/BS medical insurance with 40.00 weekly charge for family coverage.
Delta Dental insurance at no cost after a year.
Life insurance paid by company
Aflac available for added peace of mind.
401k with employer match.
Direct Deposit available.
I have been at this company for 6 plus years and average around 70 grand a year AND am home each weekend.
The downside is the company is predominantly A northeast Carrier that specializes in shorter runs for the most part. They are expanding their operating area and do go to Miami Florida, Chicago Il, and even have team runs out to California. The trucks currently in use are older Freightliners and Volvos but they do have many 2006 Model 610 Volvos already purchased and are slowly being rotated into the fleet. Seems like it take about 6 months to 1 year before you would be eligible for 1 of the newer 2006 Volvos (which happen to be automatics in case you wanted to know). The older trucks are straight 10's and some super 10's.
If your interested give Eastern Freightways based out of North Brunswick NJ a call. Do an internet search and I am sure you can get the phone number for them. They have offered sign on and referral bonuses in the past so if you do call be so kind as to tell them Jason in truck 9940 referred you.
This company has treated me very well over the years and my only regret is I did not find them sooner!
Best of luck to you!
Is there any companys left

That sounds like a good company, absolutely. I wouldn't drive for them, more than likely, as I wouldn't want to do those big-city runs time and time again, week in and week out. But if you like going into the big beehives, it sounds like a great company to be honest. To each his own.

A Northeast regional truckload carrier that gets their drivers home each weekend.
For 2 full days and nights?
A non-union company.
Aren't most?
Pays for congestion pay in the 5 burroughs of NYC, Downtown Boston, and Downtown Chicago.
Would the pay make up for the time lost delivering to these areas? My experience say more then likely, it will not.
.38 to .40 cpm to start based upon experience and where you live.
So this is top scale?
Multi stop pay.
Which is same for all stop offs or different based on number of stops? And how much?
Extra pay for weekend pickup or delivery at customer.
I thought they got their drivers home on weekends?
Paid for detention after 2 hours past appointment time.
Thats good? Paying for all hours worked is better.
If your truck breaks down you get paid "breakdown pay"
How much per hour? and when does it start?
Trucks are assigned to the driver
What kind of trucks and how old are they?
Up to 3 weeks paid vacation.
Actual paid time off or just the pay and how much?
3 paid sick days, 2 paid personal days, 6 paid holidays.
Cool! Agian if you use or not? and how much?
BC/BS medical insurance with 40.00 weekly charge for family coverage.
Delta Dental insurance at no cost after a year.
Whats the weekly for a single? How many family members does that rate cover? -
J, i was wondering about the home on weekends thing with Eastern?
Would it be friday night to monday morning? Actually in my case, i can leave sun night no problems, but i must have a full saturday and most of sunday free due to family responsibilities (long story). This means i basically need to be, not nessesarily home, but coming off duty and heading home on fri night so as to be fully rested for the weekend. Very late fri night or very early sat morn would be ok.
i have experience with working with Shevell companies, so there's no problem there. In fact, we pulled many Eastern trailers when i was with NEMF.
Also, can you tell us a little more about Eastern's customer base? What hours do you usually deliver at? Is there a good amount of drop and hook? -

BigBlue is posing some very good questions, Triple 7. This is natural for a person who may be in a good job already. Yeah, if I'm gonna be lured into hopping from a good job to a supposedly better one, I'd want the answers to some hard questions myself. Thanks for the info, though.

In my opinion the truckng industry in the most part has gone to hell in a hand basket. These big companies are running 100's of people thur their schools and orientations weekly. You are just meat in the seat! they dont give a rats ### about you. they only pay you .30 to .34 cpm that is not any real money. You are on the road 4 to 6 weeks out eating fast food or the truck stop restraurants. you have to shower in the filty showers they have at the truck stops and you are away from home and family. you should get paided very well for this, but we dont. somebody posted that a driver gets fired or something and they get on here and run the company down. well maybe the driver did get fired for stupidity or something, but the company he was working for probaly is a piece of ####. Most of the trucking companies out there today are only concerned with making as much money as they can off the driver.

Those wages are bad, I wouldn't work for less then .40 cpm. Yes you are away from family, eating in truck stops and putting up with a lot of crap, but if you have been driving for awhile you know this and do so by choice. Thats why I am running local right now. I have a teenager at home and that is more important at this time. Yes I will probably go Orr again but when it is right for me to do so.
It is a way of life and many people are not cut out for it, many of these students go through school get a cdl and get out there and hate it. These company's take advantage of the inexperience of students and locked them into working for them for a year.
There are also drivers no matter where they work they cannot be pleased. They want to complain about everything. I know everyone has seen drivers like that.
With the high turnover at companies many times the companies get a bad rap because of the winers and complainers that run their mouths after they quit. Many times they brought it on themselves. Many times the dispatchers are green and do not know much about the industry. If all these companies were so bad they would not be in business.
We just want to find a good team oriented company that meets our needs and they are out there, just have to find them. -
bigblue19,
You seem to have hit the nail on the head again. Excellent questions! Congratulations! I still cannot believe that people think this is company is a good employer. It seems to leave a lot to be desired. Keep up the good work.
