If you are planning on running California then buy a truck with at least a 2008 or newer engine or you wont be allowed in California after Jan 1st 2014 without a expensive pdf filter upgrade.

What you say is true, but the engine that has to meet EPA '07. If the 2007 truck he is looking at has an EPA '07 compliant engine, he is good till 2020. There was no EPA '08 standard. Only EPA '98, EPA '03, EPA '07, EPA '10, and the coming up EPA '14.

Then, of course, if California is a non issue, then who cares. Right?

Sounds like that used freightliner for $35,000 w/ 400k miles was a great deal.

I'm shopping for a used 07 freightliner right now...where are these $20 to $35,000 trucks you guys are talking about? I'm looking for a detroit w/10 speed. The ones I've seen at Penske used and Truck COuntry are in the $38-45,000 range. The only cheaper ones have mercedes and/or ultrashift.

Also...if any of you have bought from Penske, I'd be really interested to hear about your experience, especially your evaluation of how the truck had been maintained before you got it. I have to wonder if these units are beat up like police squad cars by drivers who don't care?

    Thanks,

    Pete

I got a ryder from Ruble in fort wayne. It had 530,000.it has fridge and the hard cabinets.I hate the nets, everytime I hit a bump stuff would fly.680,000 miles later I paid 3800 for turbo egr and sensor.it a good truck though.I paid 39000 that was with a 1500 rebate and demanded virgins versus recaps

Changing the bearings will fix the antifreeze problem?

You have a c13 kcb 500 hp engine, the Columbia 07 I'm looking at has d60, what do you think about those engines?
