How do you guys catch any sleep in your sleeper with the refer unit buzzing behind you? Are your guys' sleeper cabs extra insulated from the noise? Or is it something you just get used to. I have always been curious about it. Thanks for the replies.

You get used to it. It becomes 'white noise' and I actually have trouble sleeping when we are hauling a non-refrigerated load.

Oh, one more. How long does the fuel last? Is it something that lasts days? Or do you have to refill the tank on it every so many hours? Do you have to baby sit it on your day off if you happen to be in your hometown for a 34 hour reset?

depends on the temp you go the box set to.. tanks are 50 gal's.

You do get used to it and the alarm before it starts... if you know the cycle for the temp and it does not kick on then you suddenly become awake due to the lack of the cycle starting..

I sleep better with the refer running. AS for the fuel, it will run a few days on a full tank and even longer if the temp isn't set real low. Yeah, the refer needs to be babysat.

Funny how you get used to the noise and can sleep but when the unit doesn't start or somethings not right you'll wake up. Guess it's that sixth sense reefer drivers develop.

Depending on where you work and if they do a lot of drop and hook. If they do, you'll have to often top off the reefer tank because they don't want them dropped with less than 3/4 tank. Otherwise they can typically go 4-7 days between fill-ups (if you want to push your luck) depending on set temp and ambient temp for the period.

And if you do drop-hooks, do your company and fellow drivers a favor if you're dropping in far northern locals or when a major super cold air mass is settling in for a long period and add fuel treatment and run the reefer for a few minutes before dropping, especially if you suspect it probably has a southern blend fuel in it.
