Had an interesting week last week guys. ACH already knows a little about it but thought I would share it with the rest. My regular partners motor in his car blew up the night before we were scheduled to leave so be had to miss the whole week to find another car. No big deal. At 309 they force the least senior driver from the extra board to run when this situation comes up. Well, the least senior guy available at the time has been with the company 21 years and has not run teams for quite a while. He showed up to work mad at the world. He was not happy about this at all. He hardly said one word all week. Made for a looooong week. Lol. He was a nice guy but was just not happy about this. He was also what we sleeper team drivers call a "daycabber". Meaning he would wait until the last second to slow down for a traffic light or a ramp so on and so forth. He had never driven any of our new sleeper trucks so he grinded every gear he could find. Lol. Luckily it was a short week (only 5,000 miles) so it was over before I knew it. My regular partner is back this week so things are back to normal. Thank God. Never thought I'd miss him.

 

Least senior guy has 21 years in? Good Lord. Man I wish some of these guys would retire. We've got guys with 40 - 50 years in who refuse to retire. We had a guy who recently retired at the age of 83. He started with the company in 1953. Unreal. These guys put all that $$$ into their pension, but, never use it. Seems like such a waste. You just know the Teamsters LOVE these guys. lol

 

It's like that at all the union trucking jobs I've ever worked at. When I worked at CF, there was a guy that was 71 and still driving. Never could understand that bs. I'd be running for the door if I could have retired.

 

They should force them to retire. If they want to keep driving, go to an otr company and see the country. Let some of us climb up the ladder.

 

There's a road driver that works outta Albuquerque that's 83. He has the longest bid in that terminal. He runs to Phoenix every trip. Crazy if ya ask me. I won't stay one day longer than I have to. My wife asked me if we were gonna travel after I retired and I told her HELL NO. I'm gonna lock myself in the house and never leave again. My traveling days will be over when I retire.

 

Well I for one will probably be working till the day I die. I have nothing in the form of retirement. I could count social security but that's a joke. Every time I start getting vested in a pension or 401k I get laid off. 401k seems like a joke these days too. My wife has one but who knows if the economy won't crash and destroy it. Zzzzzzzzz
