Hey guy's I've been on the forums for a few weeks comparing and contrasting various trucking companies, and trucking schools. I've heard the good, the bad, and the ugly about a lot of the companies. In my situation, a beggar cant be a chooser, and I know no matter "starter" company I go with, I'm going to have plenty of up's and down's, and I'm willing to endure that for atleast a year or two until I can move on to a better company. So, having stated that, I'll go ahead and shootout a couple of questions.
Let's start with the fact that I have VERY little funding (500 dollars, more or less) to pay up front for things like hotels and food. I'd love to go with some of the better starter companies, but unfortunately many of those companies require that you have enough money upfront for housing, food, and various DOT fees. I'm aware that there are a few companies that do pay for your housing/hotels, but i haven't heard of any that cover housing as well as food, testing fees, or perhaps bus transportation.
So here's my first question: What is the most affordable sponsored training program out there? And, obviously, by affordable I'm referring to the LEAST AMOUNT of necessary money upfront for testing and living expenses.
Second question (Werner-related): A few hours ago, I was at a local pub/restaurant and I struck up a conversation with a married couple that have been team-driving for a few years. The wife went on to tell me that she started with Werner, and apparently Werner paid for her housing, food, and CDL training. They put her on a bus in Alabama, and sent her to as community college in Colorado, and she actually stayed in the campus dorms and ate at the campus cafeteria. Although she didn't say, it's probably safe to assume the college was hosting the CDL training as well. The situation seems absolutely perfect for someone in my situation, and I was really surprised I haven't read anything like that on the thousands of posts I've read here. I immediately tried googling this and checking out the Werner website, but I didn't see too much specific information pertaining to sponsored training. Is there anyone else out there working for Werner that can confirm this information?
Thanks guys, any advice really helps.

Where do you live? I assume you have no options locally near where you currently reside? Have you actually had any communication with someone at Werner, Swift, Schneider, Stevens, etc and explained your situation and asked what they could offer?
-
I was pretty much assuming they wouldn't bend rules for people, but maybe I should call and just explain...

I started with central refer....Only cost was the food. $150 was all I spent. I was in same boat youre in.

Two weeks .....Then they gave us $100 plus an advance of $200 when we got on the truck. They shuttled us to walmart so I bought a bunch of canned good and bread....I actually had around $500 when I went but I didnt need all of it....Alot of guys survive on ramen noodles and are flat broke.
I actually ended up giving alot of food away when my two weeks were up....Soups and sandwiches go along way along with microwables. -
Also at Central the only fee I paid was $40 the day we tested at the DMV for my CDL permit/License fee. That was the only out of pocket cost.

How much do you make per week when you are out with a trainer? & how long do you ride with a trainer?
