...not sure if I should be happy about I Shift transmission or bummed? I drive 3 western states only and am usually loaded between 75 & 79 thousand. Anyone have any experience with this transmission?

I currently drive a 2012 Volvo with I-shift. I have only been west with it once, just to Salt Lake City and back on 80. I have run Fancy Gap and Monteagle a number of times. Mine pulls pretty good. And I never miss a gear anymore. Several things about this truck I dont care for....but the I-shift seems to work pretty good, and isn't on the list.
Scooter Jones Thanks this. -

I've been using the iShift since May. I just turned 70k on a 2013. I really like it and I am no newbie. Been driving since '91. Put it "D" and push the go pedal. Drives like your car or pickup. Easy to back with too. No lag in response like the other slushbox. As far as out west, don't know. I run east coast, Maine to NJ/PA a lot of slow traffic as you can guess. Once you get over the "slam the clutch" when braking it gets even easier. I am much less tired than before.
The problem you might have is an engine code dealing with the turbo actuator. Mine was replaced and then the whole turbo was replaced because the turbo was bad.Scooter Jones, Mlaz Bogdanci and davidtruckervan Thank this. -
Update: Absolutely love the Volvo I Shift!

I drive I-70 Denver to Salt Lake a lot. ishift is great and so is D13. Plenty of power. Jake brake works extremely well. At 79,000 lb. I go down about 5 mph faster that my Pete with C15 acert.

Been in the Volvo using the iShift for three weeks now. I never grind or even scratch a gear anymore
The up shifts and downshifts are always perfect. I love being able to override the computer with the click of a button to raise my rpm's up a bit if needed when I'm going downhill with a heavy load.
Driving in rush area traffic is a breeze. My back and hip stopped hurting.
Yes, I would highly recommend the iShift to anyone who asks.Blanche Thanks this. -
I have the Mack version....M drive lol and absolutely love it. Couldn't agree with you more, these things are wonderful. Anyone that says that's not a real truck...yep if that's what you think I could care less.
S M D and Elroythekid Thank this.
