Hi drivers- I'm presently waiting to find out if I will join up with crete (there's still verifying all previous employers) but as I read most post's it's the standard problems you'll find any where in a large Company ie. Miles/Communication/waiting for load/unload times and retention, you know pretty much the norm it all comes with the territory. But I've been driving for only 3 yrs and I'm finding if I just have a decent piece of equipment it makes a lot of the usual issues more bearable. I just wanted to ask the drivers with crete right now if the equipment is good and well maintained? APU's? Are they falling apart? most of their truck I see seem to be nice, what say U? Thanks![]()

Their equipment is top notch for a fleet of this size if you ask me. Ive driven for them for a while now and cannot complain. They are currently phasing out their old century class freightshakers with new freightliners and cornbinders. All the newer trucks are fitted with battery pack hvac units and espar heaters. The older trucks they are still runnin have apus or opti idle. They can be anal about your idle time so they dont wanna give you any excuses to idle the trucks. The trucks are limited to 62. No autod, all 10 speeds. The new max force internationals take a little gettin used to. All the safety features are turned on and this new engine likes lower rpms so you are kinda forced to shift sooner then you would be used to in say an isx or old detroit. Sleepers are roomy. Ive been in all the models of truck they have and I honestly never had a problrm bein om the road in any of them. The new international mid roof being my favorite. I hope this helps. Any more questions, just let me know.

Hey thanks dunnage for the update, I hope I can get on with them I've heard a lot of good points more than bad but like I said earlier, after a couple of years you realize it's all the same when it come to Larger companies. I mean honestly on all Companies behalf it's gotta be a constant logistical nightmare involving all issue that could possibly arise in this business. It's just down to the saying what we've been told for generations which is : The grass ALWAYS looks greener on the other side of the fence, but it's not really a better yard because your looking at a different angle which brings out more color with the angle of reflection from the sun. It's all the same, that's why for me personally if you find a company that just has nice equipment your way ahead of the game. Thanks and be safe brother.
Have a great holiday if your home or not, happiness is only within.

What terminal might you be running out of? If your not sure, where do you live if you dont mind me asking?
-
I live in Chesapeake va. , Not sure where I would go for orientation but the closest terminal to me in Greensboro nc. But If they tell me I have to go to Nebraska for orientation, man that might be a deal breaker, that bus ride would be way to long. I don't think I would do it unless they flew me or I could go to orientation here somewhere on the east coast within a couple states. I actually tried Crime....I mean Prime, and that bus ride was about 36 hours from charlotte NC. I honestly don't think I could go through that nonsense again, no shower/ eating nabs and vending food until you get to where your going, no thanks.

Well the good news is, you definatly wont be riding a bus. Every driver I have talked to, myself included crete has rented them a car. When I went to orientation they rented me a brand new jeep patriot. Also, you wont go to lincon for otrientation until you are done with your trainer. You will go to a pre orientation for your pre empolyment screen, phisical, phisical fitness test, first road test and a buttload of paperwork. They put me in a nice hotel and sent us to a nice resteraunt in indy for lunch. Overall, my experience was very good for orientation. I was fresh out of school. A school that wasnt even on their list.

I'm coming in as an experienced driver, please tell me I won't have to go out with a trainer. A rental would be awesome instead of the bus. I didn't here from them today, they called yesterday about one job I had worked and they couldn't find any info on them, they probably went out of business so I hope that doesn't hinder my chances getting on.

So you feel the equipment is top notch? The trucks I've seen are well taken care of, I'll be otr so I hope I get a good one. Are we allowed to use our own inverters? whats the wattage limit on those?
-
More then likely youll have to go with a trainer. At least a couple weeks. Ive never heard of any other driver that hasnt. And yes I do think the equipment is top notch. As far as inverters go, biggest you can have is 400 watts. However if you get a note from your doc sayin you need to put a microwave in your truck to eat healthier, crete has no problem with installing your big inverter. No matter the size.

If you have 3 years experience you will not go with a trainer unless you screw up your road test lol. Trainers are usually for students, or if u been out of driving for a while, or you screw up something and they put you back with a trainer. I was at the Wilmer and there was a guy from swift of 2 years that was just finishing his orientation and got issued his truck. They have better hats they are giving out these days.
The equipment is pretty good. I have a freightshaker and haven't had any problems with it. They are only buying internationals now which are a luck of the draw it seems but I don't really fault Crete for that other than not wanting to buy or even test other trucks. Trailers for the most part are in good shape.
Inverters can only be the ciggy lighter kind 300w no hardwire ones unless you have sleep apnea and or become a trainer. I think they get like a 1500 or 2000w.Last edited: Dec 8, 2012
