I am a fairly new trucker and I had a hard safety hold on me with Werner Enterprises. I haven't had any incidents or accidents, but I am a little wary, what is it about? It is something about a skills evaluation.

The last time I was there, I think the "skills evaluation" was when they shoved a mirror under my nose to see if I was breathing....

    Here is the evaluation...
1- While backing in a straight line can you hit the unit next to you.
2- While pulling out from a crowded parking spot ( ie truckstop ) can you take the hood off of a unit next to you...either side, does not matter.
3- Can you get lost while following only your gps for directions.
4- Can you sit in one spot for hours at a time waiting for qualcomm responses.
5- Can you drive for only five of your available hours and still manage to fall asleep at the wheel.

Nah, he LIKES Werner. You ought to hear what he says about the companies he doesn't like.

Skills is a pretty broad term open to much meaning in the trucking industry, keep a big coffee mug right by yours side, 3 cigars in your pocket, talk on the cb radio like you know your an expert, and put a sticker on the side of your truck that says "Road Hog" yep you'll pass with flying colors dude. but on the serious side i do hope you know how to drive i think alot of the test will be to see how you actually drive eg changing gears with a road-ranger gear box, how you down shift, how you react to when you have to stop quickly all those are good road skills to have and which the instructors need to assess whether you already know them or need to learn them.

Ah, a member of the intermediate class. Obviously fully prepared to leave the loving nest that is Werner, and move forward with your trucking career.

You get extra points if you manage to strike both units on either side of your straight line back.

And hear we have a graduate of the Advanced Course. He can actually shift, and can count all the way to three (seriously over-qualified for Werner, but whatever)!

How often do drivers have to take a skills reevaluation?
