At 59 I'm I too old to start

    I'm 59 and in good health and still on the fence about getting into trucking. There is a community college truck driving program in my area and it starts class soon. The only problem I see that 59 years old will anyone hire me i would like to work till i'm 65. Do you guys see a problem.

    I dont see a problem with 59,i think more older driver outside OTR then younger,

    Ive seen many your age and a few older. Review the DOT physical requirements and see where you fall with that.

    As long as you can pass a DOT physical, put up with the hours and find someone willing to hire you - you're good to go. 59 or not.

    To some extent, age is just a number and it's against the law to discriminate solely based upon age. The DOT physical must be passed. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, bad hearing or vision (corrected) worse than 20/40, you probably won't pass the physical. Additionally, many companies have their own overlays to the DOT requirements and will test you for strength and agility to make certain that you can handle the physical demands of the the job. OTR drivers are in demand. Demonstrate that you can handle the work and age will not prevent you from landing a good position.

    I'm not an Owner-Op but in answer to your question. No. Your not too old. THAT is what may indeed turn out to be your problem.:biggrin_2559:

    i don't think age is a requirement. there are lots of truckers older then you. and a few of us that aren't that far behind.
