Ok everyone i wanted to tell you what happend on the orientation.. here we go .. just got home and yes, i walked out of the orientation with 2 hours to go ... no i dont need anyone telling me i told you so, i stated 2 weeks ago i wanted to see what it was all about and that is why i am doing it ...

swift oreintation .. there were 7 guys with experience as they call it .. i have 7 yrs.. have not drove for 2 yrs ... the next in line had 6 months followed by the low guy on the pole with 2 months and he rolled his truck after 2 months total driving and has not drove since march .. ok well, they decided that less than 90 days exp with a rollover was better to hire with NO trainer than someone with 7 yrs exp.

its ok for a punk kid to get his cdl in sept. who has never drove in bad weather, ice, snow, fog, etc, and tell me with 7 yrs exp i have to run with this kid for 4 weeks ... yea ok like that would ever happen so i nicely informed them thanks for luch and left ...

i do hope all of you out there who drive for swift adn jb hunt and the other companies who will hire you and let you go out on your own in your own truck with less than 90 days exp have a safe winter ... i know i am really not liking the trucking business after i see first hand for the last 2 weeks what jb hunt and swift is putting out there knowing my kids are out on these roads in bad weather with 80,000 pound rockets driven by a kid with acne and only less than 90 days exp....

no need to say i told you so to me, like i said , i wanted to see what the big companies would do when i would go there for work ... all is fine .. hope you all have a great safe holiday and please watch out for them kids ... they dont seem to care if you dont make it home as long as they do ....

i have a friend going through the same BS with over 9 years experience and out of trucking for 19 months(he was selling home loans for CWide),these guys amaze me how they judge experience! I even had someone tell me i was not qualified since i own my own truck and could not prove that i had OTR experience!!(I am not "leased" to anyone) the ten year employment history should be used in the determination of "experienced driver",but it is not. but then again-look at the companies using this policy-they are the ones you would not want to work for in the first place!

They were going to hire that kid??? And make you run with him??? WTF???? I'd have walked out, too. If you roll over a truck that early in your career, you better have a darn good reason, no excuse, for what happened - like a moose ran out in front of you!!!

Wow... unbelievable... but I do believe you...

Well, the problem there is the insurance company. You total experience becomes meaningless if you haven't drove for that long, and as far as they are concerned you are green as grass.

Yea, I've been off the road almost 2 years now as well...I would have to go with a trainer to get back in even though I have 12 years experience, LOL. I don't want to get back in, but that is funny to think about that. Amazing.

If this is driven by the insurance companies, then it is backwards. I cannot believe that they would expect you to go with that kid. You know that you would have wound up training him. I don't see where they figure that a seasoned driver like yourself would forget everything in two years and some kid qualifies more than you do. What a flipping night mare!

Some companies are self-insured, yet they still play this game. They'll go with green drivers instead of guys with some experience under their belts.

Why do these guys act this way? Well....Maybe they know you, the experienced driver, won't be hanging with them too long after you hire on and find out what kind of an outfit they are. From past experience, they know guys like you are a high 'quit risk' so they show you the door early on. They know you're a wise driver who won't put up with much BS. A green driver with 90 days is a better gamble in their eyes, as his options aren't as plentiful as yours, at least in trucking. He is also a lot more naive and will put up with a lot more #### than you will. So they go with Mr. Wet-Behind-the-Ears and tell the vet to get lost, surprise, surprise.

Could be that they want to get out of having to pay the experienced guy, so they save money by hiring the rokkie.

You know, that was my thought as well. We have companies here that do that. If you are qualified and need little training, they don't want you because you will expect more in a wage. :biggrin_2556:
