Ive done some wallboard that went from shippingport to gaithersburg md that paid to the trk 1.21cwt @ 48,000. Also one that paid 1.92cwt @ 48,000 from shippingport to bayonne nj.
Ill give you my whole week. Left last sunday for cleveland with plate from nucur cofield nc that paid 807. Then dead head from there to shippingport to get that preloaded dry wall for jersey at 1.92cwt for 48,000. Then dh to camden nj pier and loaded for skidded alum. coils that when to lebanon pa for 450 flat rate. Then dh back down to us steel fairless in morrisville pa and loaded a single coil for cincy at 2.33cwt for 40,000. Take my 26% off trk from those. Then reloaded out of ak in middletown with a 46k coil for troy va to start off next week and it pays 900 flat to the truck.
Big issue with the building materials division is when you get wallboard from shippingport you have to drop and hook and majority of the trucks have zero storage.( if your on BM you can put your name on the list for a headache rack). Most every trailer has a headboard with chain racks on em. So moving alllll your gear is a pain. I lucked out and got a truck with a side box i keep everything in there and the little storage in the truck. Only thing i have to move was my tarp and lumber. Your lumber tarps stay on the trailer you drop and when you unload the preload you inherit those tarps.
Im pleased with them so far and a have great experiences with everyone ive had to interact with. But my journey there might be real short. Got a phone call from my old boss who just started a second wrecker company and wants me to run the show. Gonna have lunch with him tomorrow and see what he has to put on the table. If its good ill be turning my truck in whenever he wants me to start. Aint gonna turn down a good job where i can sleep at my house everynight.Logan76 Thanks this. -
^^^ WOW, those are cheap rates for flat loads never mind steel. NC to Cleveland load is $1.38 a mile and Pa to cincy is around $1.95.
skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
Yeah i know i did the same math. Hence the last paragraph. The cleveland load was in the hole so much nc it was through boyds broker side and the came from the agency by my house. Boyd paper work had it at a grand. Which aint any better.

just think of all the guys that would run you over for 1.95 coming out of the east.
-
Comeing out of New England i can see guys fighting for $1.95 but from NC to Oh $1.38 is crazy and the same with the other spots he loaded out of. Loads all day long over $2.50 a mile in those areas from brokers and direct shippers.

Well I have finished with week 2 on the road with a trainer. I did learn a little more, but I get the feeling this guy is only in it for the money. I understand the money is a perk to training, but I believe you need to have more motivation than just the money. When I met the new trainer last week he just seemed a bit off to me. One of those guys that just rubs you the wrong way. Hard to put a finger on, but just something that made me uncomfortable about the guy. So either way I want to get training over with so I just sucked it up and drove on. Within the first 150 miles with the guy I just felt like grabbing him by the neck and telling him to shut up. Keep in mind I can drive and shift very well and I have no issues backing or maneuvering tight areas. Well this guy just makes me nervous when I drive. He will shout stuff out, but he only speaks in partial sentences. For example I was getting ready to merge on the interstate and it was two lanes merging in. I chose to stay in the right lane as there were fast moving cars coming up behind me and I wanted to let them pass. So as I am in the middle of the lane change he starts yelling "what are you doing, what are you doing" over and over in a panicked voice. Well I had looked in all three mirrors on that side and I was clear. I had made sure I was getting on the right entrance and there was no one in front of me. So as he is just yelling what are you doing I am thinking OMG am I running over a car. Was there a homeless man I just hit. Is the trailer flipping over. So I start hitting the breaks and trying to figure out what is going on. Turns out he was going crazy like that because I was going into the right lane that would end in 1500 feet. I explained I understand that, however there is a couple of cars I am going to let by me and then I was going to move back over. He says oh okay I didn't know if you saw the sign. He also will ask if I have learned how to secure something and when I say no instead of helping he will stand there and watch and talk down to me when I am messing it up. Then when it came time on Thursday for me to go test out the training dept called him and since we were about 5 miles away they asked if I was ready to get off the truck. He said I needed more work, even though he told me I was good to go just before that. I think he just wanted the extra training pay. All I can say for this man is he is lucky I had gone through 3 years of anger management because he has really tested me this past week.
Airborne Thanks this. -
Sorry for all the negativity. I am still happy with my decision to come to PGT and I am not going to let this experience ruin the great impression they have left on me.

Right now, you are going through the toughest time. Most trainers arent good trainers. Heck, most trainers arent even good drivers. But you've come too far to be denied your own truck. Remember this experience of riding in another guy's truck. Quite unnatural. Remember everything this guy tells you.
Why?
Down the road, you will see another rookie going through what you are, and you will know exactly how to help him. Salute.
EDIT: Dont worry about the cars...do what you have to do, get into the lane you need to be in as soon as you can. The cars will go around you.Logan76 Thanks this. -
Forget that guy, I'm pretty confident pulling open deck and take alot of pride in my work and there's still things that I can scratch my head about securing, no bodies perfect and in this industry especially pulling a skateboard you need to learn something new everyday, there's no reason he should be talking down to you when he's supposed to be helping you!
If you ever need a few hints about how to secure a load don't let his negativity slow you down, go ask some other driver's there or one of the loaders usually they will help you, this forum is also a great place to ask for advice, there's guy's here who can tell you everything you need to know about securing certain types of freight...
Be safe out there man...Airborne and rickybobby Thank this.
