Thanks for the replies so far. FYI, I am working on my CDL driver training right now at a Community College. I will start my trucking career with a home base in Dallas, TX.
Of the 8 or so starter companies which one has APUs in more of their trucks?

Not sure if that really matters...When they pay your ride out for orientation and you get to take your truck home for hometime then I can't see what the big deal would be.
-
Well, it kind of depends on why he needs an APU. If it's for convenience, then it shouldn't be such a high priority. However, if, in example, he has sleep apnea and uses a CPAP machine regularly, having an APU can be a much more important issue. The O.P. did not share his reason for wanting am APU. Could be superflous, could be essential.
Since I usually use a CPAP machine, I'm kind of curious about this same question. -
Does anybody wan't to sit in phoenix in the summer with no idle and no apu?
-
The apu is for keeping cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I would say that is pretty essential.

Arnold has orientation in Grand Prairie and is probably one of the better "starter" companies.
passport220 Thanks this. -
hogan has apus in all the trucks well epus actually cant say i like them much though and they take drivers right out of school though texas is a bit far for us i have noticed

how are they on hiring some one thats been out of the truck a few years, and how often do they get there teams home if they live in the cape girardeau area
-
when i stay out at a minimum of 7 weeks at a time comfy is a high priority
i had to do a full cdl course because i had given my license up 20 years ago
but most people need a refesher and most likely time with a trainer
of course recruiters will tell you exactly
trans am gets by the cape regularly on runs
if you lease you can route yourself and trip plan to get by there easily
even radar oreillys home is a typical place for transam to sit and wait for the pig to die -
I have to agree, though my truck has no APU it has unlimited idle and a bunk heater, which means I am running like 50-60% idle time in the summer and 1-5% in the winter. Kinda think the company would save money with APUs. But i demand comfort when I sleep or I am too fatigued to operate properly.
