Hi all. I had a recruiter from werner call and asked if iwas interested in working for them doing a dedicated Dollar General. .34 cents per mile, 40.00 for each loaded trailer and 16.00 per stop. Would pull out of Zainsville Ohio and deliver to stores in wva,pa,ny and ohio. Anyone done this or have any comments?

So is that 40 dollars to unload the whole trailer? You got to be kidding me.
-
my friend has a dollar account with jb, and he gets $100 and says that too cheap for unloading. you have to count every piece and then you have totes to move or pickup for free. jon

Dinomite..she said 40.00 when you hook to your loaded trailer. Then 16.00 for every stop on the trailer.

Learn to read in between the line Mikem. You are only going to get paid 40 dollars to unload all the stops on the trailer and then even 16 dollars sucks when you have to get in those hard places. Maybe you are new to the game but Dollar General loads are driver unload. Nobody pays you just because you have a loaded trailer. Come on now.

I worked for Werner about a month, it was okay while I was there, no complaints as far as the company itself, but I was working Family Dollar, definitely not worth the money they were paying to have to back into some of the spots, and if you hit something, they WILL hold you accountable. I can back a trailer, but not as fast as needed to get off some of the busy roads, or into some of the tight spots. For Family Dollar, it would depend on how fast you got out of there too. If I had a lazy couple of people on the dock it could take up to 4 hours to unload....and I had up to 3 stops per trip. If I had no other choice I would go back to Werner, but not on a dedicated route, at least not until I could back up flawlessly.

I've heard alot of people say they make good money on that family dollar dedicated job. But lots of companies out there run that job. Averitt, Hogan, Schneider, JB Hunt, ETC. I've talked to some drivers and they say they make $1,100 to $1,300 per week. But I also heard that stuff is floor loaded. So you gotta hump that crap at every stop. During the winter and summer?!?!? Not this driver! LOL. Good position if you don't mind a daily work out I guess. Also why do so many companies end up running for that company? It's either hard to find drivers or each company keeps bidding that freight cheaper. So you know what that means, less pay for the driver. Dude, if you live in Zanesville, OH I would go to work at Colgate. I don't know what company is pulling out of there now. (Cambridge) but I had a lady friend that loved that job. She's in dispatch now. But it was a local job. Home every night.
Arial Thanks this. -
Family Dollar is floor loaded, and the warehouse people do not care how they load it, bleach on top of food product. Stuff from your first stop buried in with stuff from the last stop. The stores ask if you can send the pet product last and the warehouse will load it so you have to work around it.
Definitely a workout though, I did not mind the work, but I can imagine in the summer say in New Mexico or Arizona....that could kill a person.

I had a recruiter call me today also from Werner. But, I'm a "newbie", just rcv'd my CDL from a training schooll here in Omaha. Still haven't found that "company" that I'd want to go with yet. I scheduled a time to meet with them and find out just what exactly takes place when you go in for orientation and then get assigned a trainer for 275 hours...
Anybody have any "word" on Werner and what it's like to drive for them?

I drove for them for about a month, they treated me ok...I got an offer to go to work for a company that takes me through the house at a minimum every 7 days so I went with that, other wise I would be with Werner today.
You will hear good and bad for just about any company out there, I started fresh out of school for Crete, I hated them, but many people really like them, it is as simple as finding the company that works for YOU
