How many starter companies have contracts stating you must stay with them for one year or owe money, just for going out with a trainer for four to six weeks?

Pretty much all of them, but then again, why would expect something for nothing. You will have to pay for your training one way or another. Either with a pound of flesh or cold hard cash. Pick your poison.

    I didn't pay. Never heard a word.

They did put on my credit profile but i disputed 6 months later and it was gone. End of story.

This is an example of an unenforcable contract. If you go out with a trainer make note of anything he or she does that you find offensible. Remember, you are the victim here. Never except personal responsiblity for making a bad choice. Pass the buck, you are not Harry Truman.

Those 1 yr contracts are for those who have there CDL School paid for by the starter comapny.. When you go out with a trainer you get paid ..

Example you go to school and pay for it yourself, then get on with a company trainer for 4-6 weeks there is no contract and you get paid for your training from that point forward ,at least this is my understanding .. of your question..

This company I went to today had a contract just for starting with trainer for 6 weeks. The contract stated that it was expensive training new drivers and if said driver did not stay for one year after the training was over, they would collect money to reimburse for expenses. This was not for a school, just for the newbie training. Needless to say I was out of there pretty quick.

that sounds like a bunch of bull. you are still making them money. they are pretty much running you and the trainer as a team run and are paying you squat and the trainer is raking in the money because he can run his 70 hours and can still be on duty but not driving and you are on duty driving and adding his miles up till you hit 70

Yeah, they had the contract mixed in the documents you have to sign, probably hoping you sign it without reading it and then down the road if and when you quit early they break it out and surprise you with it. Nice way of doing business!!!
