We were all notified about this 'proposed' rule by safety at the end of this week. I happened to be at the office Friday and was able to visit with our safety women about this then.

    Here is what transpired:

I enter her office and ask about the proposal, she starts telling me about it and I get this real serious look on my face. Then, I ask her when this is going to happen: I see more and more female drivers out on the road, when are they going to propose a mandatory PMS test? I go on to say, PMS is serious and could be the cause of road rage, and a huge safety concern. Our safety gal about fell off her chair laughing...

Then I ask when they were going to give the BMI test, and I would be happy to give them a stool sample... The safety gal, starts laughing so hard she has tears in her eyes...

It's always a fun time when I show up at the office!

Has anyone done a study on how well people actually sleep with that thing on, and how much it improves the amount of rest? I personally would not be able to sleep with that thing on my face.

I'm one of the few. I can't stand it. The RT had it turned up so high it was like a turbo blower. The next time it was so low I felt like I was barely breathing when it ramped down. He never could get it adjusted right. I stopped going to him. They help many, but I think it's a money racket. They take advantage of people. Cost can vary as much as four times for the same sleep study and same machine depending on who you go to. CPap, Continuous Positive Asphyxiation. :biggrin_2559:

Medical equipment companies find out you have insurance they force you to rent to own the machine for 13 months. Not 12, but 13 so they can get you for two yearly deductibles. You ask them why you can't just buy it, they tell you it's the insurance company. You ask the insurance company (BCBS), they tell you it's the medical equipment company. One of you are lying. Don't I need this thing for life? I even tried to return mine and they wouldn't let me. Ain't I renting it? Bunch of crooks, lol. I ended up paying $2500 for the CPap and found the same one online for $700. The sleep study cost me twice what the RT quoted me. It was like $2700. With the two deductibles I paid $3000 out of pocket. Probably why I hate the thing is how I got it, lol.

They do make a BiPap and surgery is the last option for people like me. If you are over 40 they don't want to do surgery on you.

Sleep Apnea is a precursor to Hypothyroidism and Diabetes. It took some reading to find that out. I have all three. If you ever have diabetes you have to get up to go to the bathroom all the time. It's a no win situation. Trick is to catch the sleep apnea early. I've had it since my 20's weighing around 165. It's not always neck size. Athletes like football players have huge necks from certain exercises.

There's a bunch of good threads down in the drivers health forum. Most swear on it and wouldn't do without it. It does have positive effects for most.

I'm gonna move this thread down there because it isn't regulation yet. The DOT knows it will get a bunch of drivers if they do.

I have never had a BMI test done for a DOT physical. I would be looking for a new clinic to have mine done at. :biggrin_25524:
