Have seen that clip before. Amazing. Anbody familiar with the "Ironbound Section" of Newark, NJ? There is a reason for the name Ironbound...

I've seen it before but it takes on a whole new meaning to me now. Before, I watched it and said yowsa every time there was a hit. This time I thought, sheesh, hope they had collision insurance.

What is the speed limit on that road and are there any warning signs before you get to the bridge? I don't care who you are, if you're legally doing 55-65, you're not going to stop in time if the only sign is the one on the bridge.

35 MPH and 4 sets of rumble strips in the 1,000 feet before it.

I went to google maps and looked up that address. No warnings whatsoever except for the one on the bridge. That sucks!!! However, there is a stop sign just on the other side of the overpass and there is a warning for that, and that is what the rumble strips are for. If he hit the bridge at 35, then that is a far better outcome than blowing the stop sign and killing someone.

This is one of those things that would have me questioning what the heck I was doing trucking and why I was even bothering with it.. Another test I guess. Hope it works out without too much pain, good luck tomkatrose.. Thanking my blessings again and hopful I'll never find myself in this situation..

I spent a lot of time driving in CO and around this area. Send a message to a couple people that I know live in the area and just got a response.

Thanks Bill. That comment was what I thought when I looked at the bridge on Google earth. He wasn't paying attention. We had a looooong talk about it this weekend when he got back.

I've found myself fighting tunnel vision from time to time. What helps me personally is to pull into a rest area every 2-3 hours during a trip, then walk to the bathroom, back to the truck and a quick walk-around to inspect the truck. Takes 5-10 minutes. If you don't stop regularly because you're worried about taking up too much time, then simply avoid the truck stops - 30 minutes minimum to get in and out. And that's if you don't get distracted by something while you're there.

5-10 minutes outside of the truck seems to get me re-focused pretty well.
