Loaded out of Cali with a military load, delivered in Texarkana today, no freight.
Will wait till tomorrow then probably just head home for the year. Wont haul for cheap rates just because the market is in a slump.
Martin
not a single load posted out of MD....

I'm trackin' Martin! Hows the a/c & genset doing for you? What are you pulling these days? Are ya off the blades?
Same for me tho I've been lucky. Had 3 really good rounds back-back from Yuma, Az - Mil. bases in Nc. & back to Az.
Had a full load outa Winston-Salem to Nogales, Az,,,then put 2 forklifts on along the way and the whole mess delivered in Nogales.
It looked like a empty flatbed convoy coming outa Nogales toward Tucson.
I'm home at least til after Christmas. Maybe something between then and New Years but maybe not even then if theres nothing worth hauling.
2 of our o/o's are here and everybody including me is trying to find them a load. Yea there's cheap freight,,,but nothing good even within a 450 mile search.
I'm so thankful my rig is paid for! How these guys with a big nut to crack each month are gonna get thru this is beyond me.
They sure ain't gonna do it hauling cheap tho.
Maybe this is where we "cull-the-herd" ? There may be good that comes from this for those that can hang as alota guys will go broke and quit hauling MY/OUR freight cheap.
Good luck to all of ya!Last edited: Dec 11, 2012
SHC Thanks this. -
We never have any luck out west or even in TX for that matter. We just got $4400 out of NJ - San Antonio TX. Loaded Friday and delivered on Monday into TX. There was not one load posted all day out of TX going east or north other than OK, everything else was going West or up into No-mans-land. Cheap Cheap freight. Then we lucked out and got $1.60/mile back to VA, just lucky being quick on the draw on the DAT. That was literally the only load we saw all day going to the east coast. Texas is tough, and anything west of Mississippi is tough. Even Chicago sucks nowadays, too many new carriers and not enough desirable freight. This industry is such a roller coaster, when it rains it pours, but when it drys up you better have plenty of water reserved or you will die.

+1.
Seems like having your own authority is part time/seasonal work. -
I've noticed the complete opposite here. Loads are abundant these last few weeks. I even managed $2.50 mile from Phoenix to Mobile, AL.
Texas is basically a wasteland unless you just want to stay within the state. Majority of the TX loads go less than 400 miles, that's why I pick up 2 or 3 LTL's and run when I'm there.
So far, this year is turning out to be a better one than the last for sure. And I've been calls day with load offers....hope the trend keeps up for me. And I hope you guys find some better luck in the new year.twolane Thanks this. -
makes you wonder if its worth the extra work some days.

My 2 Pals got loads outa Vegas for today to El Paso for Monday. $3.00 gross so that ain't bad at all. Don't know where they'll go from there tho.
Rig move outa Houston to N. Dakota but that would keep em out over Christnas.
I expect they will just "partial" themselves home. -
Yes, that is where we have our most luck out of the tough areas. Partials are the way to go. Not so much for the company drivers, but the owner operators wont complain especially if you get them a good rate. The key is getting the high dollar on the load that is taking you to those tough areas.

Yea that's right but it's a pain sometimes.
Means ya have to be on the computer alot, & I don't like that much when I'm out there.
It is what it is tho.
